Thanks for sharing your story with us Sujata. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Our company was started by my father back in 1984 in Southern California. We started as a shirt laundry, washing dress shirts for Dry Cleaners.
Shortly after being in the laundry industry, we moved from washing shirts for dry cleaners to washing tablecloths owned by party rental stores. My father immediately saw a need for a company in this space that not only could wash table linens, but could also sell and rent linens to these party rental stores.
The rest as you say is history.
Today, GBS Linens is one of the premiere Specialty Table Linen companies in the United States. With 8 locations in five states, we are able to offer our clients a wide selection of table linens and accessory products to suit any budget.
We had the privilege of coming to the great state of Texas in 2006 with our first location in Dallas. In 2007, we opened in Houston and in 2010 we opened a third location in San Antonio.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I’m not sure if there is such a thing as smooth sailing all the way! Life and business are full of messy twists and turns. For us, it’s not about what happens, it’s about how we handle it.
Although there have been many struggles along the way, the biggest one we have faced was the passing of my father, our Chairman and founder, Pravin J. Mody, in 2016. Although he wasn’t active in the day to day operations of GBS Linens, he truly had a great vision of where he wanted this company to go. Over the past year, we have had the challenge of defining our vision and re-energizing our team to achieve our goals.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I love that question as I believe success can only be defined by a person for themselves.
As a younger person, I believed success was measured by the car you drove, the clothes you wore, the house you lived in, and the money sitting in your account.
After having a family, losing a parent, seeing the ups and downs of life in general, I define success as being able to look at myself in the mirror and knowing that everyday I put my heart into whatever I do and I always do what I believe is ‘right’.
