Meet Sydney Johnson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sydney Johnson.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
Ahh, my story! Honestly, it’s still in the making. I’ve overcome a lot of pitfalls along my journey, and the only credit I have in making it thus far is because of my faith in God. Although I’ve overcome many adversities and challenges along the way, I have so much farther to go and many more mountains to conquer.

I’m originally from League City, TX but my lineage is Louisiana all the way; so yes, I’m infused with all the southern charm. At the age of 21, I got my first job in corporate America working in finance, which for most of my life up until then, I thought was the ideal career/lifestyle. Now for some, it is, but not even six months into it did I realize that the company nor the culture were fitting for your girl. However, after a year and a half of trying to live the status quo, I had to abort mission. I wanted to be happy and allow my entrepreneurial creativity to grow, so that’s what I did; I chose happiness and freedom. Within a week I resigned from my corporate position, packed up my apartment and moved back home to pursue fitness and real estate. Man was that the best decision I ever made! Trusting God by stepping out on faith and leaving what I thought to be a confining situation brought me peace, joy, and much more clarity.

Within two months of moving back home, things took off. I was making six figures by 25, traveling the world, competing in fitness competitions, helping start up gyms, and growing my clientele. I was living the life. Then in early 2017, I lost it all. I went from six figures to no figures in a matter of months, but what God left me with was a burning passion to serve Him and people through fitness.

So for the remainder of 2017 through most of 2018, I spent a lot of time self-reflecting, learning, and understanding who I am, recreating my brand, and discovering my why. And now, I’m here repositioning myself with a new agenda, a little more wisdom in my pocket, and a heart that’s ready to serve. I’m an eclectic spark of fire ready to ignite every flame within you to help you pursue the greatness you were called to live out; whether it be through a training session, a conversation, or through my up newest venture Bodied & Brunch!

I’m a Fitness Coach out of LJ Performance Training as well as a Realtor with CJM Realty Advisors, and I absolutely LOVE (yes, all caps) what I do. I am truly blessed to even be here so I strive to use my platform to pour into people as often as I can, and as much as I admire how far I’ve come, I know that this is only the beginning.

Please tell us about your art.
I believe I inspire and elevate people by giving them a true sense of hope when it comes to achieving and becoming all that they were called to do and be. I create an inviting atmosphere by laughing with them (because I’m a comedian), crying with them, and believing in them even when they don’t believe in their self. My motto is: Do not conform to the patterns of this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Because having a sound mind is everything! You’d be amazed at how many people walk around looking like Greek gods while completely discouraged and broken on the inside. I know what it’s like first hand; it’s unhealthy and depressing. I’ve dealt with body dysmorphia and low self-esteem, especially in the fitness industry where society calls for perfection and tells you you’re only popping if you get a million likes on IG. It’s insane how vain our world is, yet if you just take the time to block out unhealthy expectations, develop a new perspective and surround yourself with positivity in every aspect you can revamp your entire lifestyle. That’s what I educate my clients on; how to properly achieve and sustain realistic goals while being happy with who they are and how far they’ve come. And when people leave me, it is my prayer that they never forget our encounter…or else. No, but seriously I expect/demand growth because we are capable of amazing things if we simply believe we can manifest what we imagine.

I mean I don’t just train people, it’s way more to it. I’m what you call the full package! Too much? Okay okay. But in real life, I challenge my clients mentally, physically, and spiritually; drawing out the very best in them through a few giggles, burpees, and we can’t forget those good ole squats. When you train with me, you’ll love me and hate me (so my clients say) all at the same time. More love than hate; I hope. I push people to pass their limits by providing them with a holistic experience and a smile during every session, class, and conversation. I show and help others how to live comfortably and boldly (even though I’m painfully awkward) in their own right by pouring love, truth, and positivity into them every chance I get.

What do you think is the biggest challenge facing artists today?
Great question! In my experience, it’s becoming harder to decipher whether a trainer is legit or trying to climb the social media ladder. Clients come in with unrealistic expectations because of what they see on social media versus being committed to the process. Getting fit is a commitment. Not only is it working out, but you also have to eat right and make a conscious decision to change your lifestyle. There are many self-proclaimed trainers who sell false hope and strive for social media fame by creating self-serving platforms. This can drown out those of us who are out here grinding and connecting with people in the community; really working to change lives. Which is why it’s my goal to genuinely help my clients by creating an experience that defies all their expectations, or lack thereof, and leaves them feeling accomplished, motivated, and valued.

How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
You can find me Monday-Friday at LJ Performance Training, and you can be on the lookout for my next bodied and brunch which is an intense 45-minute workout followed by brunch with a fitness twist catered by local chefs and sponsored by local vendors. I’m always looking to collaborate with like-minded individuals, expand my partnerships, and promote other businesses. So, if you’re interested, I’d love to connect with you!
