Today we’d like to introduce you to T. Allen Hanes.
Allen, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I have been an entrepreneur since I was 13 years old. Had a desire to be in a raft race in Indianapolis, Indiana and needed funds to build the raft. I admired the local grocery store owner which my mother worked for. He also gave me my first job cleaning floors and restrooms for $2.00 an hour. I boldly walked into his office and told him what I wanted to do. He asked what was in it for him and I explained I would have his signature on the side to indicate he sponsored me. He also asked how much I thought I would need? I replied $50 should do it. He opened the cash drawer and handed me $50. I was hooked. And the rest was history.
My father was a big influence on me because we would always be making and creating something. We built custom stereo speakers, built a go-kart etc. But his love for photography really influenced me. I saw the magic at the age of 5 as he would process B&W film in our basement. I began to take photos and did my first paid gig at 16. Started to take college-level courses and studied the masters of light and decided I wanted to be a photographer.
I had a short college career playing football but it did not end well. I found out the US Navy was looking for photographers. Looking for adventure I enlisted and ended up retiring.
The Navy prepared me for what I do today helping entrepreneurs and business owners, I work with a qualified group of business owners, professionals and service providers who have a passion and willingness to be an educator and advocate for the success of their customers and clients Transform and Rebrand them as a subject matter expert in their field through marketing and media.
And get them recognized as the authority and leverage that recognition to grow their business.
With roots from his Midwestern upbringing, T. Allen Hanes has traveled the world during his diverse and adventurous career. Early on, he started out with several entrepreneurial ventures, although he soon thereafter aimed his drive and commitment towards serving for 18 years as a Media and Mass Communication Specialist, which involved being a top-rated Navy Photographer and Video Producer.
After he became a Retired United States Veteran, he founded and operated a highly successful Corporate Safety Training Program. Currently, Hanes is the President of The Authority Syndicate Group, LLC. Which enables him to be a Speaker and a Media and Marketing Strategist while leveraging his International Speaker and Best-selling Author status as a #1 International Best-selling Author in both Marketing and Media.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
If success results from a series of actions, what direction do you think the journey to success takes you on? Many people think it is a diagram with a straight line that starts from at the bottom and then ends at the top. Perhaps you have seen that unrealistic diagram changed with a zig-zag diagram instead that goes up, down, left, right as it zig-zags around again and again—until you end up in the upward position of success.
I have been in the zig-zag state for over 50 years—and just now in recent years have a path that is going upward. Yes, I have had successes along the way in various ways, but there have been many learning curves and failures along the way that are now contributing to my upward momentum of successes.
The key that I have found is to take action, even if you are not ready. Get out there and fail early and often. Fail 7 times get up 8 times. And never give up!
Please tell us about The Authority Syndicate Group, LLC.
The Authority Syndicate Group helps entrepreneurs and business owners create the tipping points for customers and clients to pick you. Let’s face it there is lots of noise out there. In a competitive market, you must create trust triggers. And tipping points. Why should someone pick you over the competition? A business has about 8.5 seconds to get a potential clients attention. We provide those top marketing and media assets that set you apart as an educator and advocate for your customers and clients.
Business owners pay $1000.00 of dollars for a website and they can’t figure out why it’s not making them money?
They don’t have the right message to their target audience, its full of platitudes such as call us or schedule a consultation or get a quote and other jargon because they copy other business websites. And my favorite we have been in business for 4,000 years! We fix that by using the conversion equation.
We love helping our clients increase leads make more sales and add revenue to their bottom line. For example one of our clients was being shopped for services from an overseas company in regards to SEO. As a last-ditch effort to get the contract they sent a magazine article we did on how they solved the problem. The other candidates did not have an article written about them so that created a tipping point to be chosen over the others. A $1000 investment resulted in an $80k contract.
How do you, personally, define success? What’s your criteria, the markers you’re looking out for, etc?
Success is a journey and as I described previously it can take many turns. You must be in the game. Stepping out there regardless if you are ready or not. Taking risks is a must.
Success is getting up after being knocked down several times. Don’t focus on the money. Provide a solution to a hungry market and give it to them the money will take care of itself. Being brave and bold to have the courage to leave that job and follow your vision is a success having failed many times and continue to get up and adjust is success.
Surround yourself with the people you want to be like or have done what you want to accomplish. You will have naysayers because they are afraid of you succeeding and leaving them behind. You must have the courage to leave behind the ones that are close to you. That’s ok. Not everyone will be going with you.
