Meet Taylin Belding

Today we’d like to introduce you to Taylin Belding.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Taylin. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started pursuing photography my freshman year of high school in 2016 and I fell in love. I hadn’t really thought that there was much to be considered art in just capturing a moment in time but I’ve discovered a whole new way of expressing myself through my images. I’ve been lucky enough to have a teacher who has shown me everything I know and who has encouraged me to put my art out in the world. One of my pieces this year was given a silver key award from the Scholastic art and writing contest for 2019. The art department in my school does this thing once a year where they hold an art auction where students can try to sell their art. When I first put one of my pieces up for sale during that I really didn’t expect to see any profit; It sold and was probably when I first realized that people were interested in my art and that I could sell my pieces, While I’m still not sure what I want to pursue later in life I’m completely certain that photography will continue to be an influence.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There are always those moments I face when I have no inspiration when capturing images or when I compare my images to others around me. People might not think those things effect how you perform but it really weighs you down. There have been many contests and auctions that I’ve come back empty handed from and while they may not seem like struggles, they have sometimes fueled me to build up my photos.

Tell us about your work – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I’m not a business, I would like to be one but I don’t think I would be able to get much business. I specialize in photography, mainly nature and macro but lately, I have been getting into doing portraits.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
My proudest moment has got to be getting the silver key award through the Scholastic Art and Writing contest. It was just kind of life changing for me. I had entered in the contest a few times before but I had never gotten anything more than an honorable mention. This experience has been really eye opening to me because it showed that my work was actually looked at for more than ten seconds. That probably sounds weird but it was just very meaningful to me.
