Today we’d like to introduce you to Taylor Mathews.
Taylor, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’ve loved photography since I was about 14, the feeling I first felt taking a photo is something I instantly fell in love with, like a love at first sight kind of thing. I started just on my smartphone and upgraded to my first camera about three years ago and haven’t been able to put it down since. My senior year of high school is when I realized I could turn my passion into something that could make a living, today I take photos for different events in downtown, I mainly do portrait work, there’s nothing like photographing peoples unique personalities in such a creative way. I’m definitely looking forward to everything I’ll accomplish in the future.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It definitely was not a walk in the park, I’ve faced struggles then and I still do to this day. You have the financial standpoint where you really have to invest back into your business and that can be difficult in a creative field, especially where everything is very expensive. Always remember to invest back into your passion and it will take you places you never knew you could go. There’s also the struggle of creative block, which I face almost every few months or so, it’s so crucially important that you don’t give up in your block, for some creativity comes in waves, and that’s okay, perseverance is everything.
Please tell us more about your work. What do you do? What do you specialize in? What sets you apart from competition?
I’m a photographer. I like to have a variety so I take photos of absolutely anything that catches my eye or makes a good photograph. I specialize mainly in portraits and I have a very arsty style and background. I definitely get set apart from everyone for my ability to make a photo unique and full of life and creativity. I’m so proud of everything I’ve overcome honestly, there’s been a lot of ups and downs to come this far, and I’ve triumphed through it all, and that’s something I’m so proud to say.
