Meet Tommi Linh Patterson of F45 Training

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tommi Linh Patterson.

Hi Tommi Linh, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Before the pandemic, I was fairly active with occasional tennis lessons and once/twice a week cycling classes. As the pandemic hit, I found myself isolated and removed from both forms of my regular exercise and leading not just a sedentary and solitary life, but also one in which I indulged in sweet, cakes, and all things baked! With the combination of lack of exercise and saying yes to my husband’s desire to make everything he saw on The Great British Bake Off, I found myself on the couch with a bad back for months and also carrying on the evidence of all the sweet indulgences! As we eased out of lockdown, I was faced with taking the first family ski trip in over a year. Spring Break 2020 was canceled the day the pandemic hit. Spring Break 2021 I found myself four sizes larger and unable to get into any of my ski clothes. After an unkind remark by a salesperson, I vowed to move my body and begin my journey of making my 50’s my best decade yet! I joined my local F45, won two challenges, dropped from 33% to 22% body fat, worked on my personal training certification, and now opening my own two F45 franchises!!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I was bigger than I had been before having a baby. I had so many starts and stops that I was worried about taking any trips and somehow getting off track of my workout routine. After beginning my workout routine I found it hard to take recovery days and ended up with shin splints, Achilles tendinitis, etc. I have friends that joined me at the gym but eventually through life events were unable to continue and I seriously miss their friendships on this journey. Especially as I see several really struggle with movement, time, or weight. My family has had to change and adapt as we learn how to eat clean together. So many lessons along the way!

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
F45 Training is an Australian franchisor and operator of boutique gyms headquartered in Austin, Texas. There are over 2,000 franchisees all around the world! The F stands for functional movement which combines circuit and HIIT for a fast-paced 45-minute workout. I’m proud to be a franchisee with soon-to-be-open locations in Houston. Our classes offer group-style training with certified personal trainers guiding you on form, progressions and regressions as needed. Each location will have its own vibe and feel depending on the surrounding neighborhoods it’s supported by. We do our best to get involved with the community by supporting what’s important to our members whether it’s schools, first responders, and charitable organizations. F45 creates community and friendships through our activities both in and out of the gym. We strive to educate our members on a healthy lifestyle and smart choices for their goals in a fun and inclusive atmosphere. I’m proud to be a franchisee of this global cutting-edge brand yet making it feel very local by getting to know each of our members by name and learning what their needs are. Team Training. Life-Changing. That’s our motto and I’m a living testimony of how true that statement really is. I can’t wait to get into our community and serve our neighbors, local businesses, and more.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
Listening to others that know more. Trusting the process to work. Surrounding myself with people on a similar path. Helping others to achieve success. Mentoring young people with a desire to grow and learn. Recognizing that with age doesn’t always come wisdom. Knowing when to hire others because you can’t do it all yourself! Finding people’s talents and letting them thrive where they shine. Knowing when to let go.
