Today we’d like to introduce you to Amber Pearson.
Amber, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My journey to where I am today began as a child with the desire to become a cosmetologist as an adult. I left my job at a cosmetics store to pursue being a stylist apprentice, which led me to become a salon receptionist, which led me to become a salon manager. While I enjoyed being a salon manager, at the time, I was pursuing a makeup career in film and wanted the flexibility to take film gigs when the opportunity arose. When a shortage of film jobs came about, I decided that I needed more stability and wanted to get a license to better secure jobs. Having worked in salons for years at this point, I had no desire to work for anyone else so I enrolled esthetics school in February 2016 with the idea that I would open my own spa. By May, I had the deposit paid and I didn’t graduate until August of that year. Looking back, I am amazed at how everything worked out. I began working for myself full time in January 2017 with no money or consistent clientele. I’m in awe of what it blossomed into.
Has it been a smooth road?
I wish I could say it was a smooth road. It wasn’t easy at all. I believe that social media creates false perceptions of what it’s like to be an entrepreneur and the amount of patience and persistence that is required of you. I always encourage anyone to stay consistent and push through the hard times. There will be times when you want to quit but take it one day at a time and continue to push. One of the hardest things I experienced was securing capital to continue to grow my business. The stipulations for small businesses to qualify for funding are really discouraging. I used all of the no’s I got from banks as fuel to the fire.
We’d love to hear more about The Beauté Suite.
I am a licensed esthetician specializing in brow waxing, sugaring, and corrective skin care. I define corrective skincare as targeting common skin concerns such as acne, hyperpigmentation, and melasma by using multiple treatment options but not using traditional medicine. I am most proud of my growth. I remember being in school sitting outside writing ideas in a notebook about what I would do in my business and to see it all come to fruition is mind-blowing. I’m also very proud of the clientele that I’ve been able to build. I am a naturally shy and introverted person so I love that I’m able to connect with so many women and help add a little something special to their day when they visit me. I believe my passion sets me apart from others. My passion causes me to have a hunger to learn as much as I can, and in turn, I can educate my clients on what I learn.
Do you recommend any apps, books or podcasts that have been helpful to you?
I believe that one of the most life-changing books for me would have to be Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill. It taught me the importance of believing in yourself and affirming the things you desire. When I was still in esthetics school, I also listened to motivational videos on Youtube all of the time. My school was an hour away from my house and I had driven there four days a week so listening to the motivational videos really helped me get through those days that I didn’t want to take that drive.
