Today we’d like to introduce you to Amogha Romo.
Amogha, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
It began in 2012; I was working in the oil industry and wanted a creative outlet. It so happened my local religious institution was seeking volunteers to make floral arrangements for altar decor and functions. I was introduced to the wholesale floral shops in Houston and ultimately began attending the workshops by visiting designers. My best friend requested that I design and produce her floral arrangements for her wedding in January of 2016. I covered all the bouquets, boutonnieres, aisle and alter arrangements, centerpieces, and cake decor. The critique I received was very positive and I began to receive more requests for services. After a lot of encouragement from my friends and family, I attended the Houston School of Flowers and received a Wedding Design certification. I developed a business model and launched my business a few months later.
After numerous weddings, events, styled shoots and countless arrangements, I am grateful to have been blessed with friendships, amazing experiences and immense learning.
Everything I make is customized to a client’s wants, needs, and budget and as such pricing varies. My booking process involves a wedding questionnaire (completed by the client), followed up by a consultation and consequently booking which involves a down payment and signing of a client contract. I only book a limited number of events per month to ensure that enough attention to detail is available for each client and that my work process is not rushed. I thoroughly enjoy the design and execution process of floral arrangements and ensure the time I put into my work is reflective of this.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Fortunately, early on I was blessed with guidance from other supportive women who started their own businesses. I believe with any new venture, each experience is a learning. So everything that has happened has pushed me to develop and improve, whether it be my designing or aspects of running my business.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about A’s Floral Designs – what should we know?
I design and make floral arrangements primarily for weddings and special events using high end luxe blooms. I am known for my oversized, asymmetrical arrangements. My designs are my expressions of art. I particularly love to design bouquets and floral crowns. I believe what sets me apart is my drive for continuous improvement and self critique. I am most proud of the satisfaction and happiness I bring my clients.
We’re interested to hear your thoughts on female leadership – in particular, what do you feel are the biggest barriers or obstacles?
I think generally statistics still show that the number of women in leadership roles is exponentially smaller compared to our male counterparts. Women also still need to work harder for recognition.
