Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrea Haynes.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I grew up in a small town called Greenville, MS. I was employed with the United States Postal Service for over 10 years. I worked my way up from a temporary position to Customer Service Supervisor. Like most, I dreamed of getting married, having a family, and living happily ever after. Well, my happily ever after was short lived. By age 25, I was divorced with 2 kids and back home with my Mom trying to figure out my next move. Along came my knight and shining armor, so I thought. Long story short, we dated a few short months and then, we married. Three years in the marriage, things began to change, and I found myself trapped in an abusive relationship. I created a public front while living a private hell. After suffering in silence for two years I finally reached my breaking point. I moved out and filed for divorce. This was the beginning of an end.
On November 24, 2004, my life changed forever. My estranged husband shot me in the face and turned the gun on himself. I spent the next thirty days in an ICU trauma center fighting for life. It is only by the grace of God that I survived. Again, I’m left to pick up the broken pieces of my life, only this time I managed to learn from my mistakes. I did a lot of soul searching. My immediate family and church family played vital roles in my healing. Grateful for the second chance at life, I was all in for whatever the Lord had planned for me. However, I did not see marriage in my future, but the LORD did. I remarried and moved to Houston. I joined my husband, Edwin in building a multi-million dollar home-based business. We are still active, proud founding members of Organo as well as our private business Haynes Global Services that focuses on global manufacturing sourcing within the oil/gas industry as well as military defense.
In 2011, Haynes Healing of Hearts was birth, our foundation for domestic violence survivors. We have assisted individuals with counseling, hotel rooms, as well as items needed for extended stays. We have also played an intricate part in the birthing of several ministries, one back home in Mississippi. The pain I experienced is nothing compared to the joy I get from touching lives all around the world. What was meant to kill me, actually thrust me into my destiny.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Absolutely not! I struggled with my self-worth a lot. Shortly after the shooting incident I remarried and moved to Houston. Life on the outside was GREAT, internally I was a mess. I was depressed and searching for somewhere to belong. I had no idea why life was so good yet I felt so bad. The challenge was that I was facing an identity crisis. I had no idea of who I was or why I felt so worthless. Long story short, my faith made me whole! God used some special angels to assist in my complete deliverance of guilt, shame, rejection, and abandonment. Here is where my identity began to take form! I began to learn how to love me, accept me, and properly share me. First time in my life, I realized I survived for a reason. This was not only my purpose but my destiny! To help others who are experiencing the very things I was able to overcome.
My advice to young women would be to BELIEVE in yourself. I know that sounds impossible when the odds seem stacked against you and everything seems to be going wrong. But know, YOU ARE GOOD ENOUGH. Find one or two people that will encourage you along the way. People who speak life to your future, not your present pain. Lastly, never give up! Quitters never win and winners never quit! There will be many occasions where you want to throw in the towel, but take a break and regroup so that you can get back to you. You matter. You have a purpose. There’s someone counting on you to make it. They need to know it can be done.
