Meet Trailblazer Diana Gomez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Diana Gomez.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I didn’t grow up doing anything athletic. I had no idea what discipline meant. I also had gone through some traumatic things as a child which left me feeling extremely weak mentally. To drown out those emotions, I turned to alcohol and drugs from ages 16 to 20. Even as I was going through those party days, I still wanted to do something bigger with my life by helping others. So, the only option I thought I had was becoming a doctor. Once I turned 21, I was over the party scene and started to develop better study habits and really focused getting into medical school. If you don’t know, applying for medical school is a long process, typically takes about a year to hear anything back. So, as I was waiting for those acceptance letters for an interview to the medical schools I started getting into fitness and there after started working on my nutrition. Soon enough, it was all I could think about and I just fell in love. I soon realized that being a doctor wasn’t the only option there was to help others. I didn’t want to practice curative medicine anymore, I wanted to practice preventative medicine. So, here I am today a personal trainer/nutritionist at Be Fit Gym Houston, an online fitness coach and I couldn’t be more grateful.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I had LOTS of struggles. Especially, in the beginning, because everything was so completely new to me. I had no idea what I was doing in the gym. I had no idea what it meant to eat a balanced diet. Even though I was doing loads of research, it just all felt off for me. My biggest advice would get a coach in the beginning. Really research who they are, what their philosophies are with their training and nutrition and see if all of that aligns with what you are trying to achieve, and most importantly stick it out! When I really started seeing the changes in my body and mind was when I stayed consistent with my diet and training. After that, it just all fell into place. You will still have your bad days, but, I promise you, those good days will make the journey so worth it!

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Live.Love.Lift. – what should we know?
Passion is an understatement. I absolutely love to see my clients find their confidence, find their worth, and discover the wonderful women that have been in them the entire time. (Superman for all my amazing male clients too!) I provide face to face personal training at Be Fit Gym located in East Downtown. That has allowed me to find my true calling. Working with others who truly want to better themselves is powerful. I also do online coaching where I provide customized training programs and nutrition plans for those who don’t live in Houston. Receiving messages from my online clients always brings me joy and I love the fact that I can reach more people around the world. I feel like my work isn’t just about seeing the scale go down or the measurements change. What I do is help my clients change their mindset, their relationship with food, and light a fire within them that will allow them to continue living a healthy life, not just short-term, but long-term goals are so important.

We’re interested to hear your thoughts on female leadership – in particular, what do you feel are the biggest barriers or obstacles?
Sometimes we think the fitness industry or the weight loss industry is male-dominated, but us females have something extra that naturally makes us give back much more to our clients. We sympathize with each one, but we also know when tough love is necessary. Something else that could hold us back is the fear of judgment from society when we decide to finally step up to our fullest potential. It’s a scary leap that seems overwhelming in the beginning, but when you keep moving forward and start building that confidence within, you are un-freaking-stoppable!
