Meet Trailblazer Emily Sole Growney

Today we’d like to introduce you to Emily Sole Growney, GIA GG.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Emily Sole. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I have loved and admired the beauty and allure of jewelry since I was a young girl. I’ve always been fascinated by the styles and intricacies of design and also how a simple piece of jewelry can convey strength and elegance. Upon my graduation from The University of Mississippi, I attended the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) in Carlsbad, CA for one year. I earned my Graduate Gemologist, Jewelry Design & Appraisal degrees, then immediately went to work for a high-end retailer in Brentwood, CA. After my husband and I moved to New Orleans, I started my own business designing jewelry for private clients. 10 years later we moved to Houston, where I continue to grow my business consulting with clients both locally and nationally. I have been in the jewelry industry for 17 years and I continue to appreciate each and every piece of jewelry and client that I work with. Each piece is as unique as the individual that wears it!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There have certainly been difficulties with raising three children and moving to new cities. I never gave up on my dream to work in the jewelry industry. There have and always will be challenges thrown your way, but stay true to who you are and take each day one day at a time!

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Emily Sole Growney, GIA GG – what should we know?
I specialize in diamonds, colored stones and pearls in all price points and styles. I adore antique jewelry and love re-designing old pieces. I take my time with each client and listen to what THEY want in their jewelry. It is a collaborative process that means a lot to me. I also love educating my clients on their purchase and helping them create a one-of-a-kind heirloom piece of jewelry.

So much of the media coverage is focused on the challenges facing women today, but what about the opportunities? Do you feel there are any opportunities that women are particularly well positioned for?
There are many positions for women within the jewelry industry. From high-level executives to female bench jewelers, the opportunities are available if you are honest and have a great work ethic.
