Today we’d like to introduce you to Hortencia Rodriguez.
Hortencia, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I am currently twenty-three years old and I live in Houston, Texas. My story begins as a young child, I desired to help other young women out. As the years passed by, I grew older and begin to understand what birthed that desire in my heart, I grew up without the love and leadership of my biological father which vested a void in my heart. At the age of six, my grandparents told me that there was someone who loved me and had a greater plan for my life. I grew up knowing God had greater plans for my life, but I had never truly encountered his plans because I was so set on my own.
Senior year of high school came by and I truly needed someone to guide me into my next season of life, I looked for a mentor who would take me in to correct me. God literally sent me a mentor and transformed my weeping and sorrow into joy. A few months later, my life took at a 360 rotation, I was ordained as a pastor and begin to walk into my destiny.
A year later, the same desire I had as a small child stirred up inside of me and became my real life. In 2017, I had the vision to help women around our city to encounter true love and identity. I truly wanted to portray to every young woman that they did not have to settle for the poverty and statics painted by society. A few weeks later, I spoke to a team of young woman at restoration church and shared the desire placed upon my life.
February 14, 2018, the surrounded women’s conference was launched for the very first time. That year God opened many doors for young woman to be successful in this generation. I truly believe that this conference will be a true awakening for many lost and depressed young women.
I am currently in the best season of my life due to God’s supernatural love and power. I have the privilege to mentor and lead many young women, a full-time youth director at restoration church, and the founder of the annual Surrounded Women’s Conference. I truly believe that leaders create other leaders and that is my goal to help create empowered woman leaders in our city. We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Things have definitely not been easy for me. I’ve faced many obstacles and challenges during the process of pursing my passion. Overall, I have set my mind on acknowledging that I no longer have to face obstacles alone because the victory has already been destined for me to obtain it.
We’d love to hear more about Surrounded Women’s Conference.
Surrounded women’s conference happens once a year on valentines weekend. This women’s conference is definitely not an average women’s conference. We believe that every women in our city should know how powerful and loved they are. Surrounded was founded under one vision which is to portray true love to women and inspire them to live a life of empowerment. Women around are city are driven by statistics rather than ambition, surrounded was founded to change that. Our team is highly trained in leadership daily to equip other women around our city. We can not wait to impact every women who lost hope.
Which women have inspired you in your life?
There have been two very special women who have inspired me in this specific season of my life. My senior pastor, Martha Santos, she has truly molded me and supported me these past four years. I aspire to her her genuine and giving heart. My dear friend, Pastor Jade Spencer has also been a great asset to my life. Jade’s compassionate heart is so admirable. I can genuinely say that without these two inspirations I would not be the leader I am today.
