Today we’d like to introduce you to Melanie Perez.
Melanie, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
When I was eighteen years old, I started to take my yoga practice seriously after the passing of my maternal grandmother. She use to practice yoga frequently and loved it. I ended up becoming a Certified Yoga Teacher. I teach in her honor to people of all ages and fitness levels. Anyone under the age of eighteen never has to pay for a yoga class with me. I’m passionate about what I do and I’m always eager to introduce people to yoga.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Any yoga teacher can agree with me on this: having a full house, one or two students or none at all. That is the hardest part of the yoga business. Its something that we all go through but consistency and perseverance are important for every yoga teacher. No matter how many students I have or even just one, I always give it my best when I teach a class.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Yoga With Mel – what should we know?
I teach yoga in the Sealy area. I teach at The Dance Warehouse of Sealy. I teach gentle yoga, yoga and weights, beginner’s yoga and intermediate level classes.
I’m a very welcoming individual. I know all of my students well. I know their weaknesses and strengths in yoga. I’m also aware if they have any ailments and I work by modifying poses for them. I never charge children under the age of eighteen or anyone who is going through severe health issues. Yoga is a life changing experience.
Which women have inspired you in your life?
My Mom is an inspiration to me. She is a woman that I love so much. She is my number one supporter and my life would not be the same without her. I’m so blessed to have her as my Mom.
