Today we’d like to introduce you to Shamaine Williams.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
It all started in 2018 when I was forced to move back to my hometown due to a separation. I moved from Wisconsin to Texas with no job, car, or place of my own. I knew that I didn’t want to go back into the working field and I thought this would be the perfect time for me to go into the beauty industry which I’ve dreamt about for years. I took all the money in my savings to fund my certifications to become a Certified Eyelash Technician. A few months later, I moved into my own place and serviced my clients out of my home. I started off doing family members’ eyelashes for free to build my portfolio and in hopes of building my clientele as well. My clientele slightly increased but I felt like I was limiting myself. I suffer from anxiety so I would only allow so many people into my home. In January of 2019, I stepped out on faith and signed a contract for a personal suite to service my clients. Moving my business from my home to a suite helped my clientele increase drastically. I now have a large clientele base and is now training other women to become Certified Eyelash Technicians.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
This has not been a smooth road at all. I’ve literally built my business from the ground up by myself. Some women are fortunate to have a strong support system when starting a business and some women like me aren’t so fortunate. I didn’t allow that to discourage me I just continued to push myself when I felt that others didn’t believe in me. My advice to other women is to stay consistent and don’t get discouraged when family or friends don’t support you because strangers will be your biggest supporters!
