Meet Trailblazer Tiffany Taliaferro

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tiffany Taliaferro.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I studied Fashion Merchandising & Business at TCU with the end goal of starting my own boutique someday, but after taking different courses and trying out different jobs, I realized there were so many things I would love to do and that I thought I would be good at. The one thing I knew for sure, was that I wasn’t made to work an office job 9-5. I have always been a creative type since I was a little girl, always drawing, painting, dancing, or creating something! Arts & crafts were my jam growing up, and I have always hated sitting still for a long period of time.

Senior year of college, I started working with a fashion brand based out of LA, traveling and doing market in Dallas, Atlanta, and Vegas working with buyers and learning the wholesale side of fashion. Honestly, wasn’t crazy about the job, but I learned a ton, and realized my love for travel and making new friends! I did that for a little less than two years and then started working for a boutique in my hometown (Ruthie Grace Boutique). I’ve been there now for about a year and a half and have moved around to three different positions. I currently do Visual Marketing, which is mostly social media and email content creation. I love my job with RG, and it helped me realize how much I enjoy social media and that I’m actually pretty good at it!

Sidebar: I have also been modeling for a few years now, and while in Dallas I met an incredible photographer who I now work with on his creative team doing a little photography, modeling/brand repping, and social media management for different individuals and brands! This job also allows me to travel and grow my own personal platform/brand which is my ultimate goal. I eventually want to be a travel/lifestyle/fashion/fitness blogger full-time, as well as a Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader! Another passion of mine is dancing, which I’ve done since I was about eight and am still so crazy about it! Making an NFL team is hard enough because the competition is fierce, but Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders are the best team in the nation. This May will be my second time trying out for this team, and I could not be more excited and motivated to bring my A game!

Has it been a smooth road?
It has definitely been a challenging journey, but honestly, the only thing that has kept me sane is my faith in God’s greater plan for my life! Through everything, I know He has ultimate control, not me and I know He has my best interest at heart, so there’s no need to worry or stress when things don’t go my way. Now, obviously, that’s easier said than done, but I have seen time and time again that when one door is shut, an even better one is opened.

I would encourage other women to really focus on their passion and their purpose. Other than that, I would say not to give up on something just because it’s hard or it’s not happening as soon as you would like. More times than not, dreams are accomplished over years, and tons of hard work goes into that. I would also encourage women and young girls not to look to the world for fulfillment or affirmation, but look to something so much greater, and that is found in Christ. Also, don’t let others define you and/or what you’re capable of. You HAVE TO believe in yourself, even when other people don’t.

We’d love to hear more about your business.

We’re interested to hear your thoughts on female leadership – in particular, what do you feel are the biggest barriers or obstacles?
I feel like one of the biggest barriers to female leadership, in general, comes from a self-battle that happens within a woman. I think a lot of girls don’t view themselves as equal or capable of reaching their dreams or accomplishing a goal that seems impossible. Ultimately, I think the biggest barrier to success is the one we put on ourselves. We live in a society that tends to let the world decide who we are and what we can or cannot do, instead of believing in ourselves and being willing to put in the hard work and time that it will take to accomplish whatever it is we’re striving for.

Personally, I don’t let the world tell me my worth because I know who’s I am, and I know I am valuable! I believe in myself and am confident in what I’m doing because I know God gave me these gifts and talents to use them for His greater purpose and I know He will bless me for stepping out in obedience.

I think a lot of people struggle with confidence and fear of failure, which causes them to count themselves out of the race before they’ve even begun.
