Today we’d like to introduce you to Vanessa Sanchez.
Vanessa, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I’ve always had a love and passion for making others feel good about themselves. I graduated cosmetology school in 2010 and since then have done almost everything there is in the beauty industry. It wasn’t until about 2015 that I truly found my niche. Becoming a full-time body waxer really kickstarted my love for skincare and brows. Learning different techniques such as brow tinting and permanent makeup along the way, I found that even small tweaks in the brows can transform someone’s face. It gives them a confidence that they didn’t have before! After working for other people for many years, in 2018 I finally pushed myself into opening my own studio, naming it The Body Bar. It’s been one of the most rewarding things I have ever done. I offer full body waxing for all genders, lash lifts, lash tints and brow tints. I’m so proud of creating a safe, fun space for my clients to feel comfortable, relaxed and be authentic.
This year I’ve also teamed up with Red Dagger Tattoo and now offer all of my permanent makeup services at their Webster location! They are some of the most talented artists and I am so proud to be surrounded by the best of the best in the tattooing industry.
Has it been a smooth road?
Owning your own business is not easy. I had no clue where to start or what to do. I handle my own booking system. I handle all online advertising. I handle all bookkeeping. I am constantly doing ongoing training to keep up with what is new in the industry. I have invested and continue to invest a lot of money into my own business. I deal with good people and some not so nice people. I work seven days a week and holidays.
It’s so much more than the nice Instagram quotes you see about owning your own business. It’s hard work 24/7 and can sometimes be overwhelming… but the second I show my clients their brows or skin after a service…. their reaction is worth all of the stress that goes on behind the scenes.

My business is called The Body Bar. Female and Latina owned. I offer full body waxing for all genders, lash-lifts, lash tints, brow tints and permanent makeup for brows. I specialize mostly in brow services.
I am proud of having created a fun, safe space for clients. They are able to come in and feel true to themselves with absolutely no judgment. Say what you want, look how you want, be who you want. As long as you are kind, you are welcome. I think this is what truly sets me apart from others.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love Houston. I’m located halfway between downtown and Galveston… which I consider to be the sweet spot. I think Houston has all the best aspects of Austin, Dallas and San Antonio. We are the perfect combination! We are a city of kindness and being authentic. That’s what I love.
