Today we’d like to introduce you to Veronica Mendez.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Veronica. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
2012 was the year that started it all. I always loved makeup and was often asked by my then co-workers to glam them up. That same year one of them turned Bride-to-be! That’s when I decided to invest for the first time in my craft and took a Bridal Makeup Class. My eagerness to learn more brought me to take more classes and became certified in other categories of makeup such as Special Effects/ Horror, Airbrush, and my most recent accomplishment TNT Agency Certified. Over the years I’ve had the privilege of putting all my knowledge to work. I’ve been featured on local TV stations such as FOX 26 news and ABC13 and even Houston Chronicle for my work with Special Effects and Prosthetics on “Houston’s Reigning Cosplayer Prince” Jordan Alexander Penilla. I’ve had the honor of also working 2017 LA Fashion Week and 2017 Latin Grammys. As you can see my love for all things makeup is pretty surreal! Above all, my passion lies with Bridal Makeup. 2018 I made it my focus to “Deliver Beautiful Brides” with these “Heavenly Gifted Hands”.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Although I’ve had many accomplishments, it hasn’t always been easy. Success doesn’t happen overnight at least not for me and it’s taken me years to realize that. When I started taking my business seriously I saw the shift. Most recently, I invested in a business mentor who has helped me appreciate all the action steps and realize my purpose! After all, anyone can do makeup. It takes passion to really connect with individuals on a deeper level beyond the chair.
Makeup by Vicki – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Makeup by Vicki is run by me, Veronica Mendez makeup artist. Upon request, my sister Juanita Garcia provides hairstyling services. For makeup, I offer both traditional and airbrush applications. I specialize in Bridal Makeup with looks ranging from Naturally Glamorous, Glitz and Glam, to Smokey Sultry. However, creating customized looks is my favorite. I take the time to get to know my bride before jumping straight into a makeup look. Together we come up with a look that makes them feel confident and radiant yet timeless for years to follow. Working with my sister is the best part! We take pride in being able to work cohesively and in an efficient professional manner.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Working the Latin Grammys was one of the best experiences ever! I met and still keep in contact with so many amazing people. Witnessing behind the scenes production was pretty awesome.
