Today we’d like to introduce you to Victor Green.
Victor, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Of course, growing up, both my Mother and Father had me and my older brother, Vincent, involved in a plethora of things outside of school ranging from sports, choir, charity events, church activity and many other things. All of which gave me the necessary life skills. Amongst the many things I was involved in when I had free time, there was something I had always enjoyed, which was watching any videos I had access to and the creation process behind them: movies, tv shows, music videos, highlight reels you name it. I was fascinated with the many different scenes, special effects, and storylines made to produce great content. Even more so I loved the behind the scenes, post interviews, and the bloopers feature added. I had always wondered how did they get the background to look a certain way? Why did this film resonate with me? Where did they shoot this? What do videos carry about themselves that is so special? The most important question I had to ask myself was, how can I add my emotional value and views to a video to get a certain message out?
Well, non-knowingly I began to put my curiosity to the test. In the 7th grade, my best friend at the time who is also my older cousin, Xavier and I had written and recorded a song together. All of this was done on my school science laptop! With all of the school restraints and restrictions on internet use, I managed to upload the file onto YouTube to be viewed/heard. This is the point in my life when I discovered that I was computer savvy. The feeling I got from creating something meaningful from scratch was indescribable. It wasn’t the song that gave me joy; it was the fact that I learned I had the ability to bring my thoughts and imagination to life. I didn’t exactly realize the gift I was given but carried it onto the next year when I was 13 and I had become the sole cameraman and editor to my other older cousin, Matthew. Every chance we had to get together, we used the opportunity to visit spots to make dance videos. The look I got from both of my older cousins, their eyes potent with joy and smiling from ear to ear, let me know that giving something special to others and would give me reimbursement of the same happiness. By the time I had graduated high school and went to college, I had never taken a class for videography or editing or studied either these subjects due to the fact that I believed football was my one and only talent. Every shred of content I created was from sheer love and the challenge it gave me to use my brain. I may have given up on videos, but videos never gave up on me.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Oh, absolutely not. In any journey you decide to take in life, I imagine is almost never going to be easy. In between the points after I stopped playing football and when I discovered I love creating videos was a dark period for me. I was lost in life and full of emotion with nowhere to put it, which eventually turned into deep sadness and anger and in turn affected my friendships, relationships with family members, and even affected me as a parent. This carried on up until the point until I lost a younger cousin of mine due to a battle with a rare form of cancer back in 2018. This was a pivotal moment in my life because it made me understand I needed to go and make something of myself because there are so many others who no longer have the chance to do so and anything less than that would make me ungrateful of being here. I decided that I was going to be the master of my own life, a student to others that came before me and those around me to become a teacher to those lives after me, but first I must learn to adapt adversity as my friend.
When I started recording and editing videos again at the age of 22, I started with my daughter’s birthday party in 2019 and everything was strictly off of my iPhone 6 and my iPad. Not very good quality videos and no real software to edit on. I was going around telling people to watch my content to understand the vision behind it but the product didn’t match the vision just yet. Not too many people fully understood what I was trying to convey and where I wanted to take this talent. When you’re creating something, it is not going to be accepted by a hundred percent of its viewers. Throughout the year of 2019, things started to fall into place due to my persistence and people began to take me seriously in what I was doing even my own peers. This is when I stopped conversing with others so much and started to put forth the action towards my dreams. Eventually, I tapped into a mindset I’ve always had. The mindset of an alpha wolf, which is either I can lead the pack of wolves, or I’ll run by myself but either way, I’ll ensure my own survival. I also let go of any fear of being rejected for anything I create as long as I enjoyed doing it. The rest will take care of itself. In the words of Dr. Martin Luther King, “- be a bush if you can’t be a tree if you can’t be a highway be a trail if you can’t be the sun be a star! It isn’t by size that you win or you fail. Just be the best at whatever you are !” So if by the time I take my last breath if I only helped change one life in this world in a positive manner, I consider myself successful.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
My business is a videography business. At this moment, I specialize in birthday and graduation parties, baby showers, and business/passion promotional videos. The name of my business is Prospective Memories. I decided on this name because it is the exact definition of the message I want the world to comprehend. A prospective memory is a memory captured today with the intention of remembering that specific moment in the future. How many loved ones do you have that passed on and you wish to hear their voices? Parents, do you miss the sound of your children’s laughter at age six or struggle to remember their baby faces? I’m here to help you help have these moments accessible to you at any time you want. I stand by my three stages of work. Capture. Create. Remember. It’s a simple but powerful process. I capture the memory for you. We are creating your memories together. You’re the one remembering the most special times in your life, which provide an eternal smile on your face and an everlasting feeling of warmth in your heart. Also being an entrepreneur myself, I understand the difficult process and drive it takes to get to the top. So I enjoy doing promotions for other businesses to progress in their various fields of endeavor. These also test the abilities of my creativity and I always enjoy the challenge. Feed the Wolf.
I believe I stand out because of my relentless effort to get better and the emotional standpoint I have behind what I’m doing. Memories are to be cherished forever and information is to be passed on to give the upcoming generations a sense of identity. Certain memories can give the brain pleasure and the heart a rush of merriment. So I believe what I’m doing with my videos helps the world become a better place not only for my daughter but to help provide the world with the changes it wants for tomorrow by doing something about it today.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
Who deserves credit? That’s a long list but first, my family and friends are to thank. My father, who gifted me my first and second camera, has put faith in me like nobody else. He also literally never let me quit anything in life that I started. My mother who has provided an enormous amount of emotional and mental support throughout my journey. Right or wrong, she was persistent about showing me it is always a better path to walk down. I am grateful for my grandparents who taught me the precious meaning of life. Every time you’re around them you can feel the happiness that radiates from within them. My grandparents literally have binders full of pictures of my cousins and I ranging from birth to adulthood. Being the youngest of the bunch, my older siblings and cousins have inspired me immensely and I appreciate them to the fullest. I encourage them to keep pushing it forward because they aren’t just inspiring me. They’re out in the world making a real difference and I mean each and every one of them. My family has no idea how much they mean to me and how grateful I truly am to have been chosen to be by their side. To my friends, I have to thank them because throughout the several phases I’ve had in my life, they have stayed consistent with their support with what I’m doing. Also, I’m going to say thank you to everyone who has gifted a challenge to me whether positive or negative you helped produce who I am today.
Lastly, I must give thanks to God because without His grace, nothing would be possible.
