Meet Violeta Vazquez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Violeta Vazquez.

Hi Violeta, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started doing hair at 22 working for Toni and Guy in the galleria, specializing in haircutting only. I did a 1-and-a-half-year apprenticeship with them and having the opportunity to go to my first hair show in Dallas. That hair show was what definitely fueled my love for hair and the beauty industry in general. I purchased my first hair-cutting shears there for $350, at that moment I thought oh my god, I cannot believe I spent that much on shears, 13 yrs later I just purchased my 6th shear for over $1k! Good shears really do make a difference! I left Toni and Guy and went to Beautique in the rice village and worked there for 11 yrs! That salon will always have a special place In my heart, I built a strong clientele during my time there. In those 11yrs I became Great Lengths extensions certified, btw they are one of the first hair extension companies, and to this day, one of my favorites to work with. They have the softest and most natural human hair on the market. I also became certified in L’Oréal professional hair color, Brazilian blowout treatment certified and Glow mineral makeup certified. My goal is to become a jack of all trades in the beauty industry!

At the current moment, I now work for myself! I left Beautique a year ago and I am loving every moment! A big part of me always had an entrepreneurial side, I just needed a little push. I’m currently at sola salon suites in West U. Right now, I’m just trying to learn all the ends and outs of working for yourself, making sure I’m handling taxes, retail, expenses, social media, and all of the above in a way that represent my brand to the best.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I love doing what I do, the only obstacle I would say are the long hours, especially during the holidays because that’s our busiest time of the year. So when you come home at night, all you want to do is sit down and relax, you don’t really have much energy for all the festivities.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I specialize in hair extensions, and I feel that the type of extensions that I do not too many people do. They are the most tedious, basically having to apply strand by strand to the clients’ hair to give them more volume and length. But they look so natural, and I love seeing the end results and the expression on the client’s face when they see how good their hair looks.

Alright so before we go, can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
The best way to work with me would be by doing events together. Typically wedding parties for hair and makeup are the best way to support each other and get our names heard.
