Today we’d like to introduce you to Yolanda Rivera.
Yolanda, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Hello, My Name is Yolanda Rivera Most Known As Yolis. Ever since I was little, I knew I love everything that had to do with beauty. When I was in my senior year is when I started cosmetology, I wasn’t able to complete all my hours so once I graduated I knew that I had to get my self in a cosmetology school I wanted to get my license and start working to help my parents I knew I was able to choose another career one because we didn’t have the money and second because I wasn’t legal in this country. So one day going home from work I saw a new institute so I when to get information, I got all the information I needed I got a really good deal since I was one of the first person to register I when home really have and ready to tell my parents that I was going to start my career. So I did I graduate and got my cosmetology license in 2010. I started working as soon as I got it. In 2018 I decided to get my barber license and I did so now I have both license right after I got my barber license I decided to rent my chair I Have the opportunity of been my own boss I get to choose my days and hours that I wanna work I been doing hair and makeup for almost ten yeas and just last year I started doing individual lash extensions. Everything was going great until all this pandemic when off.
I’m ready for this to be over and to start doing what I love doing.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t been a smooth road. I was 18 years old. I was working 9-3:30. I would get off and go straight to school from 4-9. They were tough days but I got through it.
Even now wild I rent my chair I still had obstacles there was weeks were I couldn’t go work because I started and IVF treatment but I still had to pay my chair rent.

My business is Beauty Salon/ Barber I specialize in men’s haircuts and Makeup I am known for the awesomeness makeup I do and the good fades I do.
I am proud of my work. I love making people feel better. And that’s what sets me apart from others. I love making women feel good about themselves once they have there makeup and hair done.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Been able to have both of my licenses
Cosmetology/ Barber, and also been my own boss.
