Today we’d like to introduce you to Yvette Banuelos.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I have been doing art since high school, and went on to take college drawing and painting classes.
My cousin, Rosalva is a talented artist and has always influenced me with her beautiful art. My mother has also greatly inspired me in recent years and we started water coloring together as a therapy for her since she has macular degeneration.
My art has also been a good therapeutic outlet for me. I have battled depression and anxiety in recent years and my art has been a great therapy for me. It is an escape into a world that I invent.
Please tell us about your art.
My mother had a flower shop while I was growing up and it really gave me a connection and a great love for flowers. I paint a lot of florals, and other things I find beauty in.
I also enjoy doing portraits as well, it is exciting to see a face come to life on a page.
Art is a wonderful way to express yourself and is a great stress reliever. I also enjoy touching people’s lives through my art. I would like people to feel inspired and have a good feeling when they see my art.
Do you have any advice for other artists? Any lessons you wished you learned earlier?
I think people who want to create art should go for it. Do not compare yourself to other artists. The main reason to do your art is for yourself. There is a quote from Andy Warhol that really ignited my art, “Don’t think about making art, just get it done. Let everyone decide whether it is good or bad, whether they love it or hate it. While they are deciding, make even more art.”
How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
I have a Facebook page, and an Instagram page for my art @Yvette_Banuelos_Studio. Original art can be purchased on either social media platform. I also have a Society 6 shop, Art by Yve where I sell all kinds of merchandise and prints of my art https://www.society6.com/artbyyve.
I show my art in local art shows and teach watercolor classes and post these on event brite.
