Today we’d like to introduce you to Jared Robinson.
Jared, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My name is Jared Robinson, I’m 25 years old and I was born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana. I just recently graduated with an Industrial Design degree from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette on May 14 of this year. I initially dived into photography about four years ago while working a Valet job during college. I started off freelance shooting at car events throughout the city, which quickly transitioned to shooting portraits for close family and friends. As time progressed and I got better, business took off. This is also when I got into landscape photography, primarily New Orleans landmarks and shooting long exposure. In the summer of 2018 is when I got into commercial/event photography, shooting festivals such as Essence and Jazz Fest.
I then moved on to shooting concerts such as Lil Weezyana Fest in 2019, which covered artists such as Lil Wayne, Travis Scott, Meek Mill, Saweetie, Trey Songz and more. As I kept elevating my skills, I was recruited by a guy looking for a photographer for a Mountain Dew event in New Orleans, in which I covered the full event, shooting artists such as Dave East, Young Nudy, and NLE Choppa. After this event at the end of 2019, I got chosen to cover Mountain Dew’s All Star Weekend events in Chicago in February of 2020. I had the chance to capture photos of Lil Baby, Dave East, Twista and basketball stars such as Scottie Pippen, Zion Williamson, and many more. These opportunities has opened many doors for me and has exposed my work to a much greater audience than before. Now, as I have recently have relocated to Houston, TX, my goal is to open up a photography studio for the great people of Houston and its surrounding areas and take my talents to the next level.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The process has not always been smooth; from learning different photo techniques, lighting and learning how to shoot in a studio with multiple strobes does not come easy. All of these things take practice and research. I had to learn not to be afraid to ask for help, even from those you may not think would respond to you. I was not always the photographer I am today. I had to learn proper customer satisfaction, how to handle different temperaments of customers, and learn about the legality of things on both my end and the customer’s end.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a portrait and event photographer. I am known for my work being very consistent with vibrancy and eye-catching images. I am most proud of how I was able to reach a larger audience of people, get noticed by people who I thought would probably never see or interact with the work I’ve done, and overall how I am consistently growing and impressing myself with the things I am able to do.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
Family matters most to me because they are the ones who keep you going throughout anything, day in and day out. Having a solid core is something that will get you through any tough road and be there to celebrate you when you reach your milestones.
