Rising Stars: Meet Kiki Yang of Cypress

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kiki Yang.

Hi Kiki, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I came from a small town in Mississippi with my background in the Chinese buffet business; then moved to Dallas Texas to open up a mom and pop Hawaiian restaurant in 2020. Then, I met the love of my life, Dr. Ben Yun Hao, and moved to Houston to start a new life. I always wanted to a boss of my own and bubble tea businesses were popping off everywhere in the USA, especially where large Asians reside like Houston. So, I turned my dream into reality. I partnered up with one of my best friends and we opened up Möge Tee bubble tea in Cypress, Texas!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No, it was not. My partner and I were looking for ‘the’ space for the longest. We wanted to be the perfect location where everyone can come to our bubble tea shop and enjoy. However, the best location with a fair rent price is not easy to find or what we can say is very RARE! When we found the space at the Fairfield Town Center in Cypress, we thought the space is perfect! Right after we signed the contract, then Covid hit us. We couldn’t start the construction because everything was shut down and we couldn’t find any materials. We finally started the construction in 2021 but then we had to learn all the construction details from plumbing to electrical etc. If you think that was it, oh No!. To add on top of all the stress with construction we have to go through, my partner and I, we both got pregnant at the same time. So there you see two pregnant ladies at Floors & Decor picking out tiles and at our construction location turning the space into our dream bubble tea shop!

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a full time entrepreneur, and owner of Möge Tee Cypress. I am also a full time real estate agent; so if you guys want to buy/sell your house, holla at ya girl! Lastly and I am most proud of is to be a full time mom to my baby girl, Audrey! What sets me apart from others is I am never afraid to dream big and move forward. From what I have learned, success is never handed to you, it is always hard work + opportunity.

Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
Definitely! Life is what you make of it. When life presents you with challenges, it’s important to see the opportunity. We started Möge Tee at the peak of the pandemic, and through the challenges, we’ve risen to the occasion and succeeded. It’s important to never give up on your dreams and my dream was to open this bubble tea shop of my own.
