Rising Stars: Meet Layla Moody of SUGAR LAND

Today we’d like to introduce you to Layla Moody.

Hi Layla, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
My name is Layla Moody. I am an Interior Designer, Contemporary Abstract artist, as well as owner of ArtisticMedia, in Sugar Land, Texas. I have been involved in art and design since I was a child. In my early years, I would draw and color to help ease my stress. From elementary school and all throughout high school, I was involved in art. In 1995 I went to The Art Institute of Houston for Visual Communications. I later changed to Photography but shortly dropped out, feeling like I needed something with more job security. I met my husband in 1997, and we married in 1999. He was a self-taught web developer and graphic designer as well. In 2000, we started our side business ArtisticMedia- a graphic design and web development firm. While he worked, I continued my education and finally completed my degree in Business Management and Marketing in 2003. I went back to school again in 2004-2006 for Interior design. In 2008, my husband began working full-time for ArtisticMedia as lead developer while I ran the business side of the company. We worked mainly in the Energy sector, as my husband was a contractor for ExxonMobil for 8 years prior. Our business continued to flourish until 2020 when the Covid pandemic hit our company very hard. I picked up painting again for the first time in 20 years to relieve my anxiety and stress about the future of ArtisticMedia. That is when my passion for painting came back, and I have since been doing commissions for clients and enjoying every minute of it. ArtisticMedia is still hanging on, and now and is a certified WBENC company. We are hopeful for the future of ArtisticMedia and Layla Moody Art & design, as well as future endeavors.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has definitely not been a smooth road. I had many health challenges that caused a lot of delays in my ability to run our business efficiently. The Covid pandemic caused unique challenges as well. Being that we work primarily in the energy sector, our business came to a halt. We had to make changes to the way we were working to keep it sustainable. Even still, challenges persist daily.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am the owner of ArtisticMedia, along with my husband of 25 years Ben Moody. ArtisticMedia is a digital web development firm. We specialize in custom ad campaigns, software development, web, logo, & graphic design, and everything else that large corporations, as well as small businesses, may need. As of 2020, I had launched my new addition to ArtisticMedia, www.laylamoodyartdesign.com which focuses on original paintings for residential, hospitality, Interior designers, and personal collectors. As a abstract artists, I work in various mediums, most often in acrylics, alcohol inks, resin, etc. My unique style of mixed media art where I incorporate various mediums, very shimmery elements in my paintings (metallic & iridescent paints and finishes) that catch the light from very angle, as well as the of use very high-quality products in my art, such as Da Vinci wood panels and resin finishes, make my artwork stand the test of time as well as has a very unique element. You can see more of my work on my website www.laylamoodyartdesign.com or follow me on Instagram @laylamoodyartdesign

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
My husband Ben Moody has been my partner since 1997. We have done everything together. He is the lead developer in ArtisticMedia, as well as my biggest supporter in my Art endeavors. Also, our three sons, Cole 16, Preston 10, and Mason 4 have been so encouraging, especially with my paintings. Our youngest, Mason (4) is my biggest fan and loves to paint along with me.
