Today we’d like to introduce you to Micah Jenkins.
Hi Micah, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Four years ago, I started my journey as a photographer. After falling in love with cameras and photographic art, my dream was to become a creative and start my own business. My first experience with professional equipment was during my freshman year of high school, when I took specialty classes in commercial photography. There I was able to learn college-level training at an early age. In 2020, I received my Adobe Associates certificate in Photoshop and in 2021 started running my own business with the help of my parents. Today, I mostly shoot sports photography for high schools and freelance photography for everyday people, but hope to one day to be a full-time sports photographer.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I get this question a lot, it has never been a smooth road, I just recently turned 18 so people doubt my abilities and creativity. I have had situations where people will turn me down for their family uncle to take party pictures, not because he’s a photographer but because he’s a lot older and could possibly do a better job. I am very professional in my work and feel that my age and experience should not be an obstacle when I work just as hard to get where I am today.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I specialize mostly in sports photography with my main clients consisting of football in the fall and baseball in the spring. I love all sports and enjoy knowing that every game is completely different from the last. I love the thrill of being on the sidelines instead of the stands and even the rocks in my shoes after the games. It’s an exciting job, one I wouldn’t trade for the world. I believe my mindset is what sets me apart. I believe in the work I do and always want my clients to feel I captivated everything they were looking for.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
A quality most important to my success would be communication. I want my clients to feel that they are heard, seen, included, and wanted. Treating people with respect at all times, no matter the circumstances, has gotten me where I am today. I am proud of the work I’ve done, and I am so excited for the future.
