Rising Stars: Meet Mishu Ullah

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mishu Ullah.

Hi Mishu, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
I am Mishu, Managing Partner, of Henry Poured Mobile Bar. Henry Poured is a horse trailer that has been retrofitted into a mobile bar available to travel to parties and events around the Houston area. The business was created out of my love for hosting parties and creating cocktails for family and friends. I got the idea of converting a horse trailer into a mobile bar because I wanted to bring the fun to any event and take the stress away from the hosts so that they could enjoy the party as well.

While completing my MBA at Texas A&M, I came up with this idea as my capstone project. As part of the project, my classmates and I had to draw up a business plan for the mobile bar business. After finishing the project, I decided to take a leap of faith and pursue starting up a mobile bar in Houston. I wanted to bring the planning to life!

When I’m not working on Henry Poured, I have a pretty busy schedule juggling a full-time career in the oil& gas industry, being a wife and a mother of two adopted Pitbulls, and spending any leftover time riding my Peloton.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road here was one with many curves and detours. During the planning stages, designing the bar itself, understanding permits, liquor licenses, and navigating the best way to build out the bar was tricky because the concept of a mobile bar was so new that the city didn’t have answers to specific questions we had. Therefore, a lot of time was spent researching, making phone calls, and email correspondence with the city’s Health Department and TABC.

The biggest obstacle we faced was finishing the modifications to our horse trailer during a pandemic! We finally retrofitted our mobile bar, BUT the city could not have events larger than 10 people at that time. It was disheartening, but we held strong and kept on the road. We took the time to research, perfect our cocktails, and do a lot of DIY building our bar, Henry, the way we like it.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
We are a mobile bar on wheels that can conveniently go to you! Henry Poured is a full beverage caterer and dry hire bar offering a variety of services from the creation of signature cocktails and mocktails, full mixer packages with standard drinks, and beer and wine pour service all curated especially for your event. Not only do we have the mobile bar trailer, but we have also expanded our bartending fleet to include a bar cart we call Fitzgerald perfect for indoor and backyard parties as well as offer premium bartending services.

We are hired for private events such as weddings, corporate events, birthdays, end-of-life celebrations, bridal parties, etc. We have also recently been hired for kid birthday parties as a special treat for the adults. Any cause of celebration is a great reason to hire Henry Poured Mobile Bar!

We are proud to have grown over the last year to host many incredible events within Houston and surrounding areas. What sets Henry Poured apart from others is that we are a team of two minority, LGBT women with full-time jobs and run a small business. We work around the clock to provide exceptional service at every event, paired with delicious cocktails that are memorable for our clients so they continue to hire us to elevate their next event and make a wow statement.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The most important lesson I’ve learned on this journey is to accept help when help is offered and most importantly seek help when it is needed. A business requires time, attention, detail, and the hands of many. Whether the help comes in the form of helping watch my pups when I have an event, help cleaning the trailer, or packing and staging for an event.

Help is always welcomed and very much appreciated. A business may be started by one person but a successful business is due to all those involved. In our case, family members, friends, neighbors, and our amazing TABC certified bartenders!
