13 is housed in a 1920s era Mediterranean-style building in an often forgotten portion of Midtown. Rather than raze this aging structure and build anew, they chose to harness the underlying beauty of its original character by preserving key components to the space such as an entirely intact pressed tin ceiling and an open-air courtyard created (by the building’s own volition) when a portion of the roof fell. They built a 40-foot bar of antiqued white Carrera marble and furnished the space with furniture salvaged from an historic Houston institution, the Warwick Hotel.

The refurbished historical building is nestled in the quaint and lively Montrose area and is surrounded by a 6,000 square foot garden adorned with Shona stone sculptures from Zimbabwe – open for patrons to explore. Inside, authentic steel frame windows, original brick walls, cozy couches, and antique light fixtures from Germany, France and England grace the space with a subtle old world vibe. Famed artist Michael Winn, of the Illumination Project at the Rothko Chapel, personally created a stunning stucco accent wall using traditional Venetian techniques.
