Today we’d like to introduce you to Veronica Guerrero.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
My story doesn’t have a typical beginning. I didn’t realize I was an artist but always had an interest in making things. A few years ago I started making things here and there to help cope with life experiences and soon found my way obsessed with the process of jewelry making. I am self-taught in everything I do and consistently push my boundaries on what I can achieve, and I haven’t stopped since.
Please tell us about your art.
I create dark and ethically sourced bone jewelry. I am a self-taught metal Smith and learning silversmith. I create pieces that aren’t seen in the everyday world and is largely inspired by the occult, history and natural world. My hope is to adorn fellow humans in pieces they can feel empowered in to change the status quo. Too often our society tells us what we should deem as beautiful, how we should think and act. Therefore I consider myself a rebel at heart and I aim to connect with like-minded individuals through my art; wearable art.
What do you think about the conditions for artists today? Has life become easier or harder for artists in recent years? What can cities like ours do to encourage and help art and artists thrive?
I think it’s easier to get seen through the veins of social media. And through the amazing markets that our city has to offer. Our city and others can help the artist community is simply by paying what they ask for and allowing for artistic freedom whether you agree or not. Creating is our most precious, innate feeling and it should be encouraged at all times.
How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
