Shade, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Started my journey as an event planner ushering in church. One of my beautiful sisters in church, approached me when I helped coordinate a wedding to pursue a career in event planning after seeing what I did for the wedding. At first, I started by just making it a hobby. Helping coordinate weddings in church while working my Full-Time job in Corporate America. I always knew I wanted to do something in the entertainment industry – and I started actually by being a makeup artist – my company name then was “Conceal” – which meant – taking away all blemishes and imperfections – revealing your inner beauty… eventually, I turned it into “ A Conceal Affair” which then translated into – taking away all the stress and worries of planning an event – revealing a beautiful and memorable day! I continued to work on building my brand – working on relationships with my brides, couples and also, my vendor family. Eventually, four years ago, I made the journey to corporatize A Conceal Affair – now I plan events full-time. This year will make it about ten years of being in the industry – happy to continue to strive to be a brand name all over the world.
A Conceal Affair now plans events internationally across the world – we have been fortunate to plan events in Canada , Barbados, Nigeria and Dubai to name a few. We have also been privileged to be featured on some of the most prominent Event Magazine and Social Media Platforms such as Grace Ormonde, The Knot, Style Me Pretty, BellaNaija Weddings and Munaluchi Bridal to name a few. We have also added event styling as well as bridal styling to what we do! I have also been fortunate to have amazing ladies with me – who have helped handle all the events and some have actually been with me since the start of the business.
Has it been a smooth road?
I would say, I have been fortunate to have a smooth road. But with all things, you have to give Glory to God. Some of my experiences have been hurtful but they have also made me whom I am in the industry today. I always take each experience as a lesson to continue to strive to do better, enhance my skill and continue to grow in an industry that is forever changing.

A Conceal Affair – is a full planning social and corporate events company. We handle everything from birthdays, galas, social functions, fundraising, graduations, and weddings etc. We specialize in curating the best event experience for our clients – be it a small to large function. We have handled events from 50 to over 1000 guests in attendance. We have partnered with some of the best vendors in the industry to bring our clients vision to life.
We are known for our attention to intricate details, creating “couture experiences” as well as forming life long relationships with our clients. We are most proud of the opportunity to get most of our work by word of mouth, which is the best form of review we can receive. Knowing our clients and even guests at our events can recognize our work and also be able to refer future clients to us based on their experience is what makes it an unforgettable experience. Our attention to details, working diligently to make sure we deliver above and beyond what the client’s expectations are, is what sets us apart from the others. Being able to take whatever budget is given to us and making the event a grand affair is another way we aim to achieve complete satisfaction for our clients.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Yes definitely! Houston is a city of diverse cultures. Houstonians love to party. There’s at least 1 event every weekend in Houston. It’s such a vast city full of options and opportunities. I would highly recommend starting out in Houston – be it a social or corporate function, Houston has so much to offer an aspiring event planner.
