Check out Celea Guevara’s Artwork

Today we’d like to introduce you to Celea Guevara.

Celea, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I am a professional artist. I was born in Honduras, Central America. I am married to Ricardo Guevara and mother to three wonderful kids: Tisie, Naruny and Luwany Guevara.( my kids Names have a Garífuna meaning) I belong to the Garífunas ethnic group in Honduras. I came to U.S.A in 2006, graduated from Houston Community College with an Associate degree in arts in 2011; four years later I decide to pursue an education at University of Houston, there I acquired my Bachelor in studio painting (2017). When I arrived at Houston in 2005, I immediately fell in love with the city that was a plus for my artistic career; being the city Houston an Excellent venue to meet people from all over the world enjoy and make art.

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do, why, and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
My art is compounded by a rich diversity in the media, techniques, and iconography. (painting, printmaking, sculpture). I constantly work with an array of technique to creatively exhibit form with passion and commitment. I am a figurative artist; my artwork has a cultural connotation targeting the Human condition but more in-depth creating a self-conscious about the work of the female figure and her multiple roles in the community. My personal style is to render a figure in its real sense reinventing and exploring new possibilities; creating a platform for storytelling to connect one another and reflects on history.

What do you think it takes to be successful as an artist?
I feel successful as I am right now, even when I am not represented by any Gallery yet but just for the fact that I am making what I like to the most is satisfying.I feel compromise with my artistic career; as an emerging artist,I am sure that there is a lot more to learn. With a positive mind and a committed spirit, the way to produce more fruits in this career becomes more enjoyable. I will love for my work to be appreciated by the masses; I know that my moment is yet to come, but in the meanwhile, the best thing I could do is to keep producing. As my beloved mentor Michael Roquè Collins likes to say “ lights reflects better when is projected from a dark background”. Patience, consistency, commitment, and faith are my best tools to keep myself in the path of success.

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
I am an MFA candidate at Houston Baptist University; you are more than welcome to visiting my studio. There I am getting ready for our big Thesis show which will be on Thursday, April 25, 2019, 5:00-7:00 pm. I am on Facebook as Celea Pigment and on Instagram a Celeaguevara.
