Today we’d like to introduce you to Larry Block Jr.
Larry, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I was sitting around back in 2017 trying to figure out what I could do to start making extra income. This was around the time that everyone was trying to start a clothing line, become a MUA, or whatever was hot around that time. I just knew I didn’t want to follow the trend and I needed to find something that I actually like doing.
I was at my friend’s house one day and seen that he had mounted his TV to the wall and I started asking questions. He told me that it was very simple, you would need XYZ. I took in the info that he gave me and also did my own research as far watching YouTube videos and reading. I started in the bedroom of my house first because I felt like if I messed up, it’s in my room and not a lot of people would see it. Tv mounted in the bedroom was a success. The next day, I did my living room TV. Realizing that I actually like doing it, I called my friend and told him that I was going to make this into a business.
Another thing that I noticed was that other Tv mounters were also doing other things as well as tv mounting. They were doing security cameras, setting up home theaters, installing in-wall speakers, and some other things. Learning how to do those things are great, but I wanted to stand out from my peers. I also offer computer repair, upgrades, hardware/software installation, and other things.
Fast forwarding to today, my business has had its slow moments when I didn’t have any work. Just like any other business that starts off, it takes time and you have to build your portfolio up. Last two months have been really busy and I have felt like my name is getting out there now. Another great thing about the business is, that I travel. I have no problem gassing up and hitting the open road to go do some work that I enjoy doing!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Starting off has not been smooth. I have had my share of struggles along the way as far as not having anyone booked, running into issues in people’s wall (not all walls are the same), people trying to negotiate on prices, and people just canceling at the last minute. All of these things come with being in business for yourself or just being in business in general. I really look at all of these things as a learning experience on what I should do and not do in certain situations.
BlockTech Installations – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
BlockTech Installations LLC is a Tv Installation and Computer service company. I haven’t come across (not saying its not out there) another Tv installer that offers computer services. By offering this computer service, I feel like that is a major factor that sets me aside from other companies. BlockTech offers flexibility with customer’s everyday schedules that, as a result, allow mobile service, promptness, and dependability. BlockTech will ensure every customer’s electronics investment is handled with care. To honor that commitment, BlockTech is true to the core values of quality work, timeliness, and affordability. The thing that I am most proud of is actually turning this from a hobby to an actual business.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Most people will probably measure success on how much money they have. Don’t get me wrong, money is important and we all need it. The way I measure success is how well did you do your job. You can take some old photos of your work and compare them to now and see how much you have grown. Recently, I was looking at old photos of my work from when I first started. I can truly say that I have come a long way and my work now is 10x better.
