Meet Mercedes Frank-Hubbard of MI’JOUR EVENTS in Kingwood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mercedes Frank-Hubbard.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Mercedes. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My interest in event planning sparked when I was in high school. The challenge of being creative seemed exciting and rewarding with the creative imagination I have. I honestly didn’t really realize how much of a PASSION planning was until my family and friends would constantly acknowledge my organizational skills. I started planning events any chance I could get. I decided after being diagnosed with a life-altering condition that corporate world let alone working for someone just didn’t fit me, and it did not make me happy at all. I was very fearful initially of what branching off from the corporate world would mean, but I realized I have only one life to live so why not do what I enjoy.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has been far from easy. The struggles I have faced along the way has been quite challenging and discouraging at times. I was diagnosed with diabetes, and cataracts at age 14 in both of my eyes. Then shortly after that, I had surgeries that were very successful in stabilizing my condition but by the age of 25, I was diagnosed with diabetic retinopathy which would pose a threat on my eyesight and could ultimately affect whether or not I could become an event planner. Then there is the roller coaster of emotions, the doubts of if you’re doing things right, or if you can do it at all for that matter. Those are just a few of the many obstacles I’ve faced, but I plan to be resilient with my goals. I have the passion for planning, the drive, and determination and so it’s up to me on how I let the obstacles affect the outcome of my goals.
MI’JOUR EVENTS – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
We love people, and we listen, we plan, and then we execute your vision to complete the mission. We believe in creating long lasting relationships so every step of the way our clients are treated with the utmost care.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
What I have learned is that everyone has a different standard and meaning of “success” or what being “successful” means. I used to have my perfect detailed list as in having the means to take care of my family and creating opportunities for others, making a difference in the world, but honestly now I believe my meaning for both is just simply being true and happy with every choice that I make in life so when I look back and reflect on my life and I ask myself was it all worth it? I can honestly say “heck, yeah it was”.
