Meet Gloria Prince of Glorie Road in Outskirts

Today we’d like to introduce you to Gloria Prince.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Gloria. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Predominantly, I am a singer, dancer, songwriter, and actress. I’m originally from Prairie View, Texas and currently a graduating senior at Prairie View A&M University; majoring in Accounting. More importantly, singing has been a part of my family for as long as I can remember. Interestingly, my mother is an opera singer and went to school for music. From the very beginning, singing and performing has always come natural for me, in which you could find me in front of a TV regularly learning all the moves from the B2K era… My influences are Stacie Orrico, Brandy, Janet Jackson, JoJo, and Beyoncé. Unfortunately, my mother didn’t allow BET or MTV in the household, so I was limited to Christian music video stations, however I would still find a way to watch Street Flavor once everyone was asleep! Growing up, my familyand I lacked valuable resources, but my mother did everything in her power to keep food on the table. On the weekends, I would generally stay in my room practicing and watching music videos on the Christian channel. One particular day, a music video came on with a beatuncommon from anything I had ever heard before in Christian music (heavy 808s and a sultry vocal started the song). The song was Genuine by Stacie Orrico and at this very moment (13 years old), I knew my purpose in life was to sing and inspire others by utilizing the voice which God blessed me with. Uniquely, I met Stacie Orrico on a flight to Atlanta and almost lost my mind! Consequently, I told her she was my biggest inspiration and the reason for me starting a career in music. Overall, I accomplished the following: featured in Vibe Magazine, Karen Civil, Global Grind, Spotify Official Playlists, 5-Million Streams, Two Number-One Singles on Digital Radio-Tracker and the RnBass Charts, recognized by the highly respected, Music Mogul Houstonians; with nominations of Best Musical Artist of the Year and Female Entertainer of the Year for 2018-2019…

Has it been a smooth road?
To begin, it is never a smooth and easy ride on the journey to success; especially in the music industry. Throughout my personal journey, I have struggled with my weight and the fight of keeping my morals; along with remaining modest. Most importantly, I am the type of artist who prefers to keep my body prudent. To further add, I do not want to be perceived by others as a sex symbol because it makes me feel extremely uncomfortable. Therefore, I have the utmost respect for Ella Mai and H.E.R because of the strength they have to practice modesty; as well as their ability to sell influential music. I am not a skinny girl by nature, and have always been on the luscious side if I fail to exercise and make appropriate food choices. Generally, I would feel detached from my team because of the pressure of looking “skinny.” Ultimately, I have never felt good enough and as a result have fought numerous mental battles with self-love.Correspondingly, I have never starved myself, however I did experience a deep depression for quite some time…

Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
Not long ago, I finished a film entitled “Screwed up Christmas;” which was directed by Ms. Cat out of Houston, Texas. Recently, I have been steering more towards my career in acting and definitely looking forward to being casted for more projects in the near future. Moreover, what I am most proud of is, landing a placement on BET Jams; in addition to their Spotify playlist. Furthermore, I was also favored with the opportunity of having Vibe Magazine premiere my video “All To Me,” which was a special moment for me individually. In addition, I would also have to say reaching five million streams on Spotify was breathtaking as well as being recognized by Spotify on their official playlist. To further add, physically seeing my name at #1 on digital radio twice was also a surreal moment for me. Currently, I am working on my upcoming EP entitled “Glo.” I am very excited about this project, as it will be my first body of original work which will give me an amazing introduction to what I represent and/or stand for as Gloria Prince…

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
In the next 5-10 years, I foresee labels going completely out of business! The way social media is arranged and developing; it ultimately allows for entrepreneurs to reach a level of marketing which is basically provided free of expense.
