Today we’d like to introduce you to Kirk Richmond.
Kirk, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Growing up as a child, I never pictured myself being an artist or even doing music. My focus was mainly towards becoming a professional ballplayer (like most young athletes). My father starting training me to play baseball at the age of three, and I played all the way up until my freshman year of college. Even though my focus was on baseball, music has always been in my heart. I was raised in a heavy church going and music filled family, literally, everyone was a musician, singer, or songwriter. So, I guess you could say singing was a gift I had, rather I wanted it or not. It wasn’t until after I stopped playing baseball when I decided to actually try this singing thing out; both of my parents were phenomenal singers and musicians, so why not give it a shot! From then on, I started singing a lot more and finally started doing gigs around the Houston area. Now, I’m currently building a brand for myself as well preparing to release my first EP titled “Boy meets girl” which will be dropping the 2nd quarter of 2019!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Has it been a smooth road? Absolutely not! I believe whenever you’re chasing your dreams or working towards your visions, during the process of getting your feet wet can be the most difficult times of you’re a journey. I’ve had the struggles of not knowing what to do at times, not knowing who to talk to for advice, there has been many trials and tribulations that’s been thrown at me to keep me off focus, and to discourage me from even wanting to pursue my dreams, goals, and visions. I’ve been rejected time after time thinking that I wasn’t good enough to do what I truly love to do and to go forth with my desires of being an entertainer and artist. Furthermore, I’ve learned a lot while going through those moments, and it has, and currently, still is today helping me tremendously in growing as a person, as well as an artist.
Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I’m a singer/songwriter who specializes in feeding souls with good relatable R&b music. I’m known for my soulful sound and unique vocal abilities. I’m most proud of the progress I’ve made as a singer and artist and understanding the music business. I believe the thing that separates me from others is my style of music, along with my humbleness and my faith.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
The quality/characteristic I feel is most important to my success, is simply being humble because humility can take you a long way, as well as being teachable and being able to serve.
