Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Longshore.
Ashley, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I was a chubby nerd who didn’t fit in.. Now I am a chubby nerd who gets paid. I work hard. I love my life. I surround myself with incredible humans. I go for it – no apologies and no fear. I work harder every day, and painting is better than sex or drugs, so there you have it.
We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
Have you ever heard the expression “a picture is worth a thousand words” …go to ashleylongshore.com… hahaha. But really, my art is about my experience in life. It’s about me. It’s about exploring my role in society. I don’t give a rats ass if someone doesn’t like it. There is nothing to “know” about my art but rather EVERYTHING to show. Have a look.
What do you think it takes to be successful as an artist?
I don’t know; there are more tools than ever. You don’t need a gallery. Social media is incredible for artists. I never think about challenges, but instead, I think about opportunities. I am an optimist.
Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
It’s called the internet. It’s pretty amazing. And there is this thing called google, but for real, I am VERY VERY particular about where my art is hanging, they are my babies. You can find 95% of my inventory in New Orleans at my studio and a brilliant collection at my restaurant Palette at Bergdorf Goodman in NYC. There is also an amazing show up right now that Diane von Furstenberg curated of 37 female icons at her flagship store in NYC – yay!
