Today we’d like to introduce you to Krystal Gonzalez.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Krystal. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I have always been into makeup growing up but never thought of it as making into a career for myself. I went to school back in 2012 and got certified in Medical Billing & Coding. Although the 9-5 helped pay the bills, it wasn’t something I saw myself doing for the rest of my life, I knew there was more out there for me! So, I created a YouTube channel to showcase my passion for all things beauty, especially makeup application! I wanted to start freelancing on the side and slowly, I started building clientele. Doing so, it gave me the chance to do my first wedding, as well as glammed up beauties for their prom and quinceañeras! Earlier this year, I got the chance to be a part of a photo shoot for a great campaign and enjoyed every minute of it! I also met and became good friends with some wonderful and empowering women through networking for some of Houston’s Events and have yet to meet more!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road has not always been smooth for me, but somehow I always make it through. I had put off freelancing for a while because I had lost motivation for myself, and thought to work a 9-5 is so much easier, but I slowly got back into it because I know this is something that I am passionate about! My advice for other women is to stay focused and keep going even if it gets tough, you won’t regret it in the end! I am a mother to two beautiful girls and I know they look up to me! They are a part of my motivation and remind me every day to keep going.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about BeautybyKrystalG – what should we know?
As of right now, I am a stay at home mom to two beautiful girls. While they are at school, that is when I film and edit my YouTube videos and network through Instagram or Facebook for possible gig opportunities. Filming YouTube videos is so much fun and while editing does take a lot of work, I am so proud of how it all comes together in the end and how I am able to showcase my work as a makeup artist!
Finding a mentor and building a network are often cited in studies as a major factor impacting one’s success. Do you have any advice or lessons to share regarding finding a mentor or networking in general?
My advice for networking would be to do your research beforehand and find out how you can be the best version of you. I am a very shy person when it comes to speaking to people, but I’ve found that looking up YouTube videos on how to talk to people (yes, there are videos for that, LOL!), has helped me get through that nervousness that you can feel with this business!
