Meet My’chal Jacquot of SpotOn Photography/ Myke.Visions in Humble

Today we’d like to introduce you to My’chal Jacquot.

Thanks for sharing your story with us My’chal. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’m from the south side of Houston, raised by both grandparents in Hiram Clarke. Graduated in 2007 from James Madison High and graduated from Lamar University in 2013 with a degree in Computer Science and another degree in Management Information Systems. Creativity has always been my go-to thing. As a youth, it was drawing cartoons, working on arts and crafts with my grandmother, and working on art pieces in middle school for competitions. As I got a little older, it was studying the art of music, working on webpages from the ground up, designing flyers from scratch, or working on sketches in my downtime. So when photography fell in my lap, it fit perfectly in my lifestyle. From shooting my growing family to shooting random flowers on the side of the road. My camera stays with me.

Has it been a smooth road?
Smooth road? That’s a thing? Lol

No way has it ever been smooth sailing. Countless nights of my eyes burning in front of YouTube tutorials on editing and getting the right composition of pictures. Then trying it on my own only to realize that it would not turn out the way I studied it. Photography is a bunch of trials and errors. Don’t ever let anyone tell you different. Oh, but when you get it, you get it and it feels amazing to see your end result.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the SpotOn Photography/ Myke.Visions story. Tell us more about the business.
I am a versatile photographer. I literally shoot anything. Weddings, landscapes, baby showers, events, kids, elders, animals, and the list goes on. I just love photography. I started shooting the summer of 2017. Still mad at myself for not picking up a DSLR much sooner than that. Started shooting my family and close friends who agreed to be test subjects. I stayed consistent with my craft and here I am years later. I guess what separates me from the rest is the moods of my photos. I love looking at a photograph and it tells a story. I try to stick to that style of editing in all of my photos. And oh how I love a dark and moody photo that brings out the subject. I spend a lot of time on my editing sessions to make sure I get the look just right. I get a kick out of people’s reactions when I send over a preview of their session.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Photography is ever changing. The models, the equipment, technology inside the cameras, smartphones with DSLR capabilities, etc. I do a bunch of research of futuristic events. Photography being one of them. I see lots of articles that state “The Death of DSLR Cameras is Near”. The DSLR will be celebrating its 20th birthday in June of this year. Do I think they’ll be around for another 20 years? Probably not. Especially with how much smartphones and mobile photography apps are evolving. In 5-10 years, I can bet smartphones and VR technology will play a key role in the shift of photography. We’ll just have to wait and see! Until then, I’m still shooting my trusty DSLR but I’m excited either way.
