Meet Stephanie Liu

Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephanie Liu.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Stephanie. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started to pursue a real estate career after I left my job on Wall Street in New York City after seven years. At first, I was a bit hesitant to leave my six-figure salary at the time, but as more time passed, I realized that it was the right time for me to leave the industry to pursue my passion. I always had an entrepreneurial spirit that I inherited from my mom, and it was starting to burst at the seams.

Although it’s never too late to pursue your dreams, I did not want to wait until I was 40 years old to take action. I had enough financial support after working for 7-8 years at one of the most competitive and cut-throat jobs in the world, and that’s when I quickly realized, if I survived that, there was not a single thing I could not do.

I received a lot of skepticism from friends and family at first (and still do). They did not understand why I was leaving my “safe” six-figure job to go into an industry helping people find apartments, rentals, and homes.

I learned to cut out all the noise and just work harder than anyone else around me (as with anything I do). The beginning of this year was when everything started to blossom for me. I was able to train with a great mentor in the industry, and she was the one who taught me that if you work hard enough and like what you do, the money will come.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has definitely not been an easy road. I think we all look at Realtors on social media and think it is easy to do what they do. Unfortunately, there is a lot of sweat and tears involved behind the scenes that you do not see — countless hours saving deals, late nights negotiating contracts, losing deals, and constantly putting out “fires” for clients. Fortunately, my previous experiences working on Wall Street have trained me to brush things off quickly and move on when I need to. I don’t let one thing bother me for an extended period of time. Otherwise, I would never be able to get over my challenges and continue to perform my job. My motto now is “get up, get out, and get to work!”

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I specialize in helping Houstonians and those relocating to Houston find their dream homes. There has been a huge influx of people moving to Houston in recent years, and I am excited to be helping them find a place to call home in Houston and showing them all that this cultural city has to offer. I also assist clients in finding homes in the highly desired inner loop locations so they can experience modernized, urban living. Houston is one of the most innovative, diverse, and affordable cities in the US, and it is really drawing a huge crowd to our city.

I am so proud of my business because it is entirely self-funded with my hard-earned money, and as a woman trying to establish herself in this world, that is very important to me. Hey, if Kylie Jenner can self-fund her own company and turn it into a billion dollar empire, so can I!

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Knowledge of your market, consistency in service, and negotiation skills are so important in real estate, and that is what sets me apart from others. I am a native Houstonian, and with my knowledge of the ever-changing landscape of the city, I can keep my clients well-informed of new and upcoming developments in Houston on a consistent basis. Working at one of Houston’s top luxury real estate, brokerages has also allowed me to reach and market to a larger audience in Houston.

Additionally, negotiating billion dollar contracts under highly time-sensitive environments on Wall Street give me the advantage and an upper hand when helping to negotiate residential and commercial real estate contracts for my clients.
