Today we’d like to introduce you to Bobby Mack.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I would say my story started like many other artists. As far back as I can remember, I was always doodling, drawing cartoon characters, and a lot of old skateboard imagery. But I wouldn’t say I took art seriously until my early 20s when a string of events left me nothing but time to hyper-focus on myself and my art. I started off doing oil realism paintings and thats where I started seeing a small income and a possible (art) career path. Fast forward four years later, and I got my tattoo apprenticeship under Fidel Casillas in Pasadena tx and started doing the ol tatters. Once I found the industry it was hard to picture my self doing anything else
Please tell us about your art.
My tattoos are heavily influenced by American traditional style art. I try my best to create a timeless, clean, and to the point tattoo for all my clients. I just hope people take away a cool ass tattoo that they are proud to wear. There’s nothing more rewarding to me then when my clients are stoked to have some of my work on them . It still amazes me when I post a baboon head on Instagram with the lion king soundtrack playing in the background and have multiple people asking for it tattooed. I’m like “this is siiiiiicck”
Choosing a creative or artistic path comes with many financial challenges. Any advice for those struggling to focus on their artwork due to financial concerns?
Yeah it was definitely hard in the beginning I was doing the whole two jobs thing for a good year and a half into my tattooing but my advice would be sleep less and really focus on the goal. I came pretty close several times to giving up but I’m pretty stoked I didn’t know. Cause it’s awesome once you can look back and appreciate the work you put into living a comfortable life.
How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
You can see my work on people at doctors offices, law firms, strip clubs, bars, restaurants, hospitals, probably at all the plants in the Houston area. But if you don’t wanna go around looking you can just see them on Instagram @bobbymackart
