Check out Alicia Angst

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alicia Angst.

Alicia, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I am a Houston native with a passion for horses and photography. My Dad was a photographer when I was younger and my first camera was a 110mm that I took to church camp. Dad bought me my first nice 35mm camera before I went to Israel at 16. My first digital SLR camera came when I was working as a journalist at the Observer in Humble. I took that camera everywhere. It took me twelve years to wear it out. I upgraded and have been working to set up a photography business ever since. Photography has been a part of me ever since I was a kid. Being homeschooled, I was able to explore a lot of my interests and photography and horses have been the two that are lifelong. Writing is the other one.

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I am a photographer. I love to capture a moment in my frame. Posed pictures and heavy edits are not my style. I want to get the moment you do not look at the camera and capture that glimpse into your heart. I have done maternity, horse shows, portraits, and family events. Lifestyle photography speaks to me in a way that traditional posed portraits do not. It’s those looks out of the corner of your eye, the natural body language, and the bond between people and their animals that I hope people see.

Do current events, local or global, affect your work and what you are focused on?
I want people to be able to look back on that brief moment that was captured in an image and smile no matter what is going on. I recently had someone repost their maternity pictures from three years ago and that was one of the biggest compliments that I could have received. It meant they got to remember and the memory made them smile.

Photography has only changed in that much is done digital instead of in print. Either way, it’s a moment in time captured for people to look back on.

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
I only currently have my Facebook and Instagram pages.
