Today we’d like to introduce you to Daniela Chanin.
Daniela, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Sweet & Savory was founded from the love of cooking, creation, and food. I grew up learning culinary arts from three generations of cooks and my mom, who had a popular catering business. After finishing my BBA and then my MBA, I spent a few years in the business world. I decided to give up the business world to refine and expand all the cooking skills I acquired over the years by attending and completing my culinary education at the Art Institute of Houston. Afterward, I began doing small events and catering for family and friends. This led to the start of Sweet & Savory, which specializes in dessert tables, customized cakes, and canapés. All of the food is always prepared with lots of love and dedication.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has been a fun and pleasant road. Since there were no pressures, the business grew at a steady pace.

We specialize in custom cakes, mini desserts, and canapés. One of our most popular savory cakes is the sushi cake, which is topped with an avocado rose! Every food item that is given to our clients has to be perfectly presented, all the while having the best possible taste and flavor!
What were you like growing up?
My earliest memories are being in the kitchen with my mom helping her to cook and bake. I still remember making sugar cookies every December to give out as gifts. I think all the hours spent in the kitchen at an early age influenced me the most in deciding to pursue this as an adult. The kitchen has always been my happy place!
