Today we’d like to introduce you to Vivian Asamoah.
Vivian, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Pursuing a passion has always been my driving force. After almost two decades of providing care to patients from around the globe, my passion for medicine was reignited when I made the decision to incorporate functional medicine into our practice. I received my medical degree from the University of Geneva, Switzerland. I have learned the art of medicine from diverse communities ranging from the Swiss Alps to the rural townships in Johannesburg, South Africa. I completed my residency at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center and my fellowship in Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition at the renowned Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore, Maryland. My vision to treat patients not as disease entities, but with an all-encompassing approach with a goal of making lives sustainably healthier has led to partnership and the creation of Zazen. A cutting edge state of the art healthcare facility where the comprehensive modalities of Functional Medicine are harnessed to augment conventional Medicine.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Being a doctor is a profession that I have had time to master over the years, however the role of leader and entrepreneur has been one of the greatest challenges that I continue to learn.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Zazen – what should we know?
In the search for a name, Zazen resonated instantly with the founders. Zazen is meditation pose which leans towards a more open simplistic approach, a break of endless cycles of mundane routines and activities. This was our vision for the new practice. At Zazen we strive to shift our practice of medicine by shifting our energy towards steadiness and sustainability, breaking out of old habits and practice of medicine that clearly were not resulting in long term healing.
Our concept is simple, optimizing overall gastroenterology health and wellness by focusing on education and providing start of the art, evidence-based care in conventional and functional medicine. We believe that that is what sets this company apart.
