Today we’d like to introduce you to Key Sterling.
Key, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I lost my mother at age six. The day was January 1, 1989, I grew up a very troubled girl in and out of CPS custody, I ran away as much as I could. I suffered severe depression and anxiety. In July 2002, I became a mother and by May 2003, I was a mother of two. I was in an abusive toxic relationship for years. I started experimenting with drugs and drinking and party. I loved the nite life and it loved me. In 2012, I became a mother and for a few years, I and my three kids were homeless and nobody knew. I remember I was invited to an after-hours club and a situation happened where I was asked to introduce a song on the mic and the Dj (Dj high lyfe) was like a girl your voice is amazing and just like that, I was the new MC. I was now MC Key2thacity and I loved it. I started meeting new people and realized I loved the art music that is and that I could help a lot of people and decided to start Key Sterling Entertainment. While working with artists such as Psyco Sid Jayla Rose Yung Al and other people in the industry, I realized that I needed to tell my story and how my life went from the edge of the bridge to walk in my purpose. I started mentoring and speaking at many empowerment events and homes for runaway teens.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Yes, there have many many struggles. I invested over $20,000 of my own money into having a powerful empowerment event where I was going to speak and give away scholarships to deserving youth in Houston and the company I hired stole the money, the event didn’t happen and sent me back into a serious depression.

Key Sterling Entertainment LLC. I started this business because I love the entertainment business and I helping people is so important to me. I am known for Marketing Branding and the development of artist and businesses. I am most proud of putting on the Houston Hip Hop awards I’m which I did alone. What sets me apart from everyone else is that I truly support everyone no matter the financial situation only music and I am always the same person whenever you see me. I am zero tolerance when any negativity is presented.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
My plans for the future are having a successful event where I mentor and create a positive path for women of all ages helping them see their worth and beauty. There are some huge changes for 2020, I have a book being released and my own cosmetic lip line in memory of my mother.
