Photography and fashion is a way for me to express myself without using words. The art of story-telling using pictures is something I’ve always been drawn to. Photography is about feeling and capturing an important moment. It’s something people keep till forever to take them back in time to a precious day. I’ve always envisioned myself living out an extraordinary life of travel and pursuing what I love, and each time I photograph, it feels like I get closer to my vision. In the back of my head, I felt so naturally drawn to aesthetic things, aesthetic travels, and aesthetic adventures, and there’s nothing better than a camera to accompany those things. So finally when I reached towards the end of high school, I got the courage to buy my first camera.
And to my heart’s content, it was as if a part of me was finally piecing together. Each time after that, from photoshoot to photoshoot, I could feel myself growing. Not only did my work fulfill the happiness of the beautiful people I captured and got the opportunity to meet, but the immense joy that I felt while I was challenging myself creatively was unmeasurable. And finally the photographer in me, discovered the content creator in me so that’s the next step that I’ll be unraveling. With content creation, I hope to push myself further artistically with different projects and pursue my fashion dreams. Photography is the perfect platform for my love of art, fashion and story-telling. The possibilities are limitless.
Has it been a smooth road?
Being a young South Asian woman, growing up in an Indian family especially, there’s always a long list of expectations from people all around. However, I’m immensely lucky to have been brought up in a very artistically talented family. My father has been in the restaurant business as long as I was born. Like me, he is passionate about art, culture and content creation. For that very reason, we line up quite perfectly and he encourages me daily to push my creativity further as not even the sky is the limit. After I got the courage to start, I began to look at myself differently and realized that I have so much potential to grow. I began to value myself as an artist and journaled down content each time I thought of something new. If there had to be one obstacle, it would be me becoming more comfortable with putting myself out there without holding back. I strongly feel that once that happens, it will help myself become more and more confident in who I am and who I aspire to be.
What are your plans for the future? What are you looking forward to or planning for – any big changes?
I plan to take my photography business to the next level by working together with other strong content creators, and one day travel the world, country by country and capture the beauty and diverse cultures that the earth has to offer. I also hope to photograph weddings as they are so rich in culture and such an important life moment. I hope to impact the world as an artist and tell my story to inspire millennials to chase after dreams as we all have them for a reason. At times, artists are under-appreciated especially in the south Asian culture, where it sometimes becomes difficult to break the norms since there is so much expected from us. For that reason, I’d like to grow my platform and also help others understand the beauty of it. I feel that people often have a surface level perception when there’s actually so much deeper thinking that comes along with it.
