Today we’d like to introduce you to Monica Landry.
Monica, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’ve always loved photography since I was a kid and excelled at it in the media program at Jack Yates High School under the direction of Ray Carrington (the best photography teacher in the WORLD!) My eye to see the world differently along with my chances to use my creativity have fueled my passion for the art.
I would have my camera with me all the time just taking pictures of random stuff like a fountain or murals in Galveston, I enjoyed the random images so much that I began to frame the prints as art in my home. I started like most photographers taking pictures of my friends and their kids and had a small room in my house as a dedicated studio space.
Today I have a modest studio and build a lot my props to fit the themes that I’m working on. My focus these days are high school grads, maternity and babies… I LOVE photographing the babies.
Has it been a smooth road?
It hasn’t always been smooth sailing… there were many times I just wanted to give up but had so many people in my corner urging me to keep going. When I was working in a corporate job, my co-workers would ask me “Why are you even here??? You are too creative to be doing this.” I heard their enthusiasm toward my work and decided to step out on faith and pursue my photography dreams. There were times after graduation season where I would be worried where the next check would come from and how I would pay the bills at the studio, but my clients are the BEST!!! My business has sustained by word of mouth. I’m so grateful for the opportunities I’ve had, the people I’ve met and the relationships we’ve built.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Artistic Visions Photography – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
Artistic Visions Photography has been around for more than 15 years, specializing in senior photography, maternity and newborns. I am proud that I have been able to sustain for so long. Most of my clients come to me for all of their milestones. I have several clients that I have photographed their senior portraits and their weddings and even their families. CREATIVITY is what sets Artistic Visions Photography apart. When taking my clients on location many of their reactions are the same. “How’d you find this place” or “I never would have thought of that”… I love it when the client’s expectations are exceeded.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
There are so many hidden gems in our city. Beautiful scenery can be found everywhere, even when you’re not looking. The traffic and construction is what I could do without, but hey, our traffic isn’t as bad a some cities (L.A.) LOL.
