Today we’d like to introduce you to Jacqueline Vann.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Jacqueline. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
As a kid, I literally always had a disposable camera in my hand and would take everyone’s photos around me. I got my first real camera when I turned 14 and at that moment I realized how much fun I had capturing everyone around me. Photography has always been a passion of mine. It all started with taking all of my friend’s photos at school to taking my families photos at gatherings or events and before I knew it people I didn’t know were contacting me to photograph their special occasion.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has not been easy getting to where I am at. Some of the struggles have been wanting my photos to look a certain way but struggle with getting them there. Any advice I can give is DO NOT GIVE UP! Push through those tears and fear sister! Keep moving forward because you CAN do this! Make sure to use your resources. Research what you are wanting to learn, ask for help and join groups on social media for what you are pursuing as a career and YouTube everything. There are tons of people out there who are willing to help answer questions. Always remember that everyone starts somewhere. No one starts off doing the job perfectly.
We’d love to hear more about Jacqueline Ann Photography.
I specialize in life and movement photography. I photograph maternity, fitness maternity, engagements, glamour, branding, seniors (graduates) and headshots. My ultimate goal is to help women and men of all shapes and sizes see the beauty in themselves and to make sure I capture that moment perfectly so that in the future when they look back at it, it puts a smile on their face because they remember how happy they were at that moment. Nothing makes me more happier than to get feedback that I have captured them in a way they struggle to see or that I couldn’t have captured that moment anymore perfect. What I am most proud of is seeing my work from when I started to now. HUGE difference! I am not where I want to be but I am working hard to get there. With every photoshoot I always speak with my client beforehand and really try to get to know their personality because everyone is different in their own unique way and I want to make sure that I capture just that.
What’s the most important piece of advice you could give to a young woman just starting her career?
Any advice that I can give is never give up on your dream. It’s easy to feel doubt and frustration. Use your emotions as fuel and make sure to stay surrounded by positive and influential people. Take pride in all of your work and never look back. Never compare yourself to others especially ones that have made it further because you have no idea how long it took them to get there or hard they worked to get there. Only compare yourself to the person you were yesterday. There is always so much to learn in any career and so much room for improvement.
