Meet Trailblazer Jalia Walda

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jalia Walda.

Jalia, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Born & raised in Uganda. I came to US as an immigrant but during my stay at home waiting for my paperwork so that I can get a job, my passion for makeup inspired me to start a YouTube channel where I eventually got confidence to show my knowledge about makeup, hair & beauty. I got a lady who asked me if I was doing makeup on other people & definitely said yes, This is where I knew Jesus was trying to open a door I didn’t notice earlier, from there I started advertising myself as a makeup artist but I had a lot to learn. Exposing my work was not easy & getting noticed because of the big competition but deep down I knew God wanted me to do this. I remember my first pay was $25…this is my greatest achievement, I felt like I had everything.

So I knew I had to be patient & also showcasing my talent through doing different makeup looks on different people. It wasn’t a simple journey because clients were not consistent but I kept in prayer & asking God to help me through. My pastor prophet Kankande Samuel I thank him for his endless prayer & support. I knew now that I had to get certified in order to open more doors of opportunity. But right now I’m always booked & busy because I even started doing hair as a substitute in case I’m not doing makeup. I thank the support I received from my family. I thank God for the opportunities I have met. That is my journey.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The challenges I faced was feeling unnoticed, rude clients, cancellation at last minute, no showup clients & also being new to USA. My advice to young women is to keep chasing their dreams & you please don’t forget God in all things. Patience is a big deal in any business & being calm & willing to learn.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I’m a makeup artist, hairstylist & YouTuber. I specialize in natural makeup doing bridal makeup…I’m a mua who specializes in all skin colors. I’m known for doing makeup & you still see your skin beautiful, giving my clients what they have in mind is key in my business. My business page is makeup & hair series by Jalia. I do not follow makeup rules but makeup follows my rules. What sets me apart from other mua is I love delivering what the client is looking for & also building a relationship with them.

What’s the most important piece of advice you could give to a young woman just starting her career?
Patience is key…Do not feel lost every time things don’t go as you expected. Requires a lot of sacrifice & never quit your job because you will need money to build yourself. Honesty is important & also tell clients what you are willing to deliver. Most importantly, is praying to God & have faith.
