Today we’d like to introduce you to Quiana Williams.
Quiana, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
From the moment, I came across a Polaroid camera I knew that capturing moments would be a forever thing. Once I became employed as a Photographer Assistant at 16 years old I knew the cliche saying “get paid doing what you love” could become my reality. As a child, I developed a love for architecture and landscape scenery throughout every road trip I’d ever taken, which inspired me to then capture the serene moments along my journey. As a teenager I had the pleasure of shadowing Touche, a local legendary photographer in Houston. Trying to find my niche as a creative artist I began to network in the arts community, at casting calls, expositions, local fashion shows, concerts, nightlife events, and several other venues. Today I am currently building clientele and relations as a freelance photographer.
Has it been a smooth road?
The road has been anything BUT smooth, but it has been worth the walk. Currently, one of the biggest struggles I face is over analyzing my ideas, and work to the point that I discourage myself. Something that I’m re-learning is to be kind to myself and simply DO IT! I’m sure to some people it may seem like no big deal but for the ones like myself, stepping into radical action can be frightening at times.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Fancy’s Fotos story. Tell us more about the business.
Fancy’s Fotos is a photography business that is known for being the Queen The Skylines. What set Fancy’s Fotos apart from any other photography company is her ability to capture the essence and aura of the subject. One of my proudest moments thus far on my journey was the day I assisted in photographing a wedding. One of the limitations I put on myself was that I would never do weddings because it is a once in a lifetime moment and the pressure of the irretrievable that can’t be recreated gives me anxiety. Through that experience GOD showed me that I should not operate out of fear nor place limits on myself.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
In my opinion, the current trend is to capture and share. I believe in the next 5 to 10 years it will shift to capture and experience/relive. I believe sharing what we experience via apps will become “outdated”. Sharing via virtual reality is more interactive in my opinion. Then again, I am one of those people who has a really big imagination and also believes we’ll fly our cars and have pet robots in the next 20 years, so who knows?!
