Today we’d like to introduce you to Tony Buzbee.
Tony, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I grew up in Queen City, TX which is a few miles outside of Atlanta, TX. My father was union meat cuter and my mother drove our school bus and worked in the high school cafeteria. I was the first person in my family to go to college, made possible by an ROTC scholarship. After college, I served as an infantry and then special forces officer in the Marines. I left the Marines as a Captain. After the Marines, I attended the University of Houston Law School, where I graduated second in my class. I have spent the last 20 years representing people who have been hurt, killed, discriminated against, or cheated. I am also proud of my charitable work, including charities for the homeless and for children. I have also owned and operated hotels, apartment buildings, shopping centers, and retail spaces. I am the epitome of the American Dream and I want to spread that message.
Has it been a smooth road?
The Marines were not easy. I served in the Persian Gulf and Somalia. When I was screened for my Recon unit, we started with 50 Marines and finished with only three, including myself. Representing people in difficult cases is a task, but I have enjoyed every minute of it. It was not easy to become the best trial lawyer in Texas; it was all hard work!
Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
Most people know Tony Buzbee as a lawyer. Lawyers are known for being smart, aggressive, and creative. We do what it takes, within ethical means, to win. But, I am also known for the businesses I have started. I am proud of all the work I have done.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love the diversity of our city.
I dislike the corruption at City Hall and am running for mayor to end such corruption and to serve all Houstonians.
