Today we’d like to introduce you to Juan Morales.
Juan, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My first attempt as an Entrepreneur was a staffing agency in which we staffed Healthcare Providers throughout the Greater Houston area. Four years into running this company despite its “success”, I realized I was unfulfilled and needed to pivot. I needed to create something that had an impact and could be I could be proud of. At the time of exiting this company, I was uncertain of my next step but I was certain the staffing agency was not for me.
In the meantime, I went back to working at the Emergency Department. At the hospital, I realized that there was a big gap between English speaking healthcare providers and our Spanish speaking population. This is true in both our healthcare system and communities.
So that is when I decided to start a marketing agency focused on helping business owners reach the Spanish Speaking Community. Houston alone has a 44% population of Latinos and we are the fastest growing segment in our nation. As a business owner it’s imperative you have a marketing plan to reach us and we can help you do that.
When a company advertises in Spanish, it makes us feel like they respect our heritage and want our business.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
There have been multiple challenges along the way. With the first company, it took me four years to realize I had built my own prison. I worked countless hours and even though we were “successful” I was not fulfilled and it started to reflect in my personal life. I gained over 30 pounds during this time frame and there were countless days in which I would lay in bed staring at the ceiling wondering why I was doing this. After four years, I finally developed the courage to exit that company.
As I look back, it was necessary for me to go through that because it took that for me to realize the importance of prioritizing myself. It’s impossible for me to be a great husband, son or business owner if I am not the best version of myself. I stopped compromising and am now on a mission to create a complete life in which I am proud of all aspects of my life.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Latino Reach – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I am very proud of the company we have created. We help business owners and healthcare providers reach our fastest growing community with facebook ads and content creation in Spanish. It’s important to realize that despite the fact that there is a border between us, we are one community.
Locally we are also proud to work with the Puerto Rican, Cuban and Dominican Festival to disseminate the Puerto Rican, Cuban Dominican Cultures throughout the Houston area. We are educating the citizens of the City of Houston about who we are and asking them to embrace our cultures in a friendly and festive environment.
I am also very proud of the global health partnerships we have developed. We work closely with PACE MD Global Health and MedSpanish to help train healthcare providers all over Latin America. We also work with MedSpanish to teach English speaking healthcare providers Medical Spanish in an online and full immersion setting.
Ultimately the goal is to bridge the gap between the Spanish and English speaking communities and we will continue to do so until we all have access to the same business services and healthcare.
What role has luck (good luck or bad luck) played in your life and business?
I think the more you show up the luckier you get. If keep swinging the bat, eventually you hit a home run. It’s just a matter of putting the odds in your favor.
Equally as important you can never take anything personal. When you fail the narrative you tell yourself about what happened is just as important. Most of us take failures personal and make it about us, which is a huge mistake. We interpret the failure as “its because I’m not smart enough, good enough or this always happens to me” versus just realizing this is one circumstance that didn’t go your way and the faster you can get back out there, the faster you will recover.
This is much easier said than done but in summary you increase your odds by never giving up, and you never give up because it’s not personal. One circumstance does not define you, quickly forgive yourself and move on.
